So has anyone come up with a good idea to prepare for KitKat? I would rather prepare for it than have to deal with consequences afterwards in case there are any.

This link explains things well: KitKat and SD cards — what's fixed, what's broken and what's misunderstood | Android Central
There are numerous options to address, all which require root acces: manually (google the instuctions), use an SD-fix app (there are several I believe), use an Xposed Module, use a custom ROM.
Did I understand the last paragraph of the article correctly in that if you just want to store media on your SD card you should be ok and that the problem lies with things like installing or putting apps themselves on the SD card?
Does anyone know if KitKat is going to also affect the use of things like Dropbox for storage?
LOL! I take it u are being sarcastic?

I do NOT like anyone forcing me to do ANYTHING including where to put my stuff. The first time I would have been forced to use Google+ to rate an app was when I stopped rating apps. I and hundreds of thousands of other people paid good money for their SD cards and they should be allowed to use them as they see fit.
I take it there has so far not been a fix or workaround found for this ridiculous almost communistic way that whoever is doing this is doing it? Have they totally lost their minds and forgotten that we are adults and allowed to make our own choices?
I want my Blackberry back if this is how they're going to play the game.

Dont' upgrade to KitKat; it sucks. My HTC desire has become useless after the upgrade.
Running KitKAt on my Note 3 no problems so far, i like it.
