Best way to test Service from another Carrier

Hi,

Due to some recent changes by Sprint, my data connectivity at work has dropped from Slow to None, and my voice connectivity at home is abysmal. I know my coworkers and sister has good service near both places and am thinking of switching to be able to use my phone, but I would like to check to make sure these work for me.

Is there a way I can test another carrier's service on my own number without being hit with a premature ETF? I'm at the point where I WILL pay the ETF to get actual service if I need to, but only after i find out if I am actually use the new carrier.

Well no. The only network that is compatible with our phone is Virgin and Boost Mobile. Both you will lose 4G WiMax. So your best bet is to get a phone on the network of your choice. All carriers have a try before you buy in there contract.

I'm sorry, I probably wasn't clear.

I'm ok with switching phones and selling the Epic Touch. I know Verizon already has a dead spot in my house, so I'm pretty much stuck with AT&T for a post paid carrier. I just wonder if there's a way to port my number to an AT&T phone without immediately invoking the Sprint Early Termination Fee.

If service is horrid with AT&T too, I'd like to be able to switch back to Sprint without the $350 outlay.

I'm almost 100% sure there is no way you can do it. Most carrier's don't like us porting our numbers to one of the other guys to begin with. Let alone what your asking them to do. Their not that nice....

Like Dark Knight said, most carrier's have a grace period when you sign up. Like Sprints 30 day... Oops!!! My bad, 15 days now grace period were if you don't like the service you can return the device and cancel your plan no questions asked.

If you want to stay with Sprint you can call CS and ask them about an Airave... I'll fix your issues at home, but you would still be out of luck when your out and about town.

If you call sprint ahead of time you can port your number to google voice, and they assign you phone a different number.

Another option: get the att phone and call forward to it during the test. Not so good, but a decent test

I do have Google voice, so I can set it up so that it forwards. I'll have to pay for the time I keep my Sprint number, but it might save me cash if the GSM phone doesn't work out like I hope. Thanks for that suggestion.

I'm hoping to be able to use the Unlocked Galaxy Nexus and a Prepaid carrier if the plans are worthwhile. I'll let you guys know what I end up doing in case it helps anyone here.

UPDATE:

I used Google Voice to forward my number and it worked fine.

T-Mobile has a prepaid plan that should work in my usage pattern, and it will save me about $30/month as well. My data speeds have significantly increased. I was used to not getting data in most places and only getting 60kbs on a decent day and 350kbs on a great day. I'm getting around 3,000-8,000kbs with T-Mobile on HSPA+. I can actually use the phone now.
