Ok some sarcasm in the title. Its all my fault... This is the last time I will update to new software straight away....after using lollipop now for two months I can't really think why it's any better than 4.4.2 kitkat. I was so amazed by my phone when I had kitkat, it was fast and zippy all the time and could get 36 hours of medium usage without charging.... Now with lollipop it is sluggish and battery doesn't last as long....Surely HTC must've known that performance is not going to be as optimised as with kitkat was.... they should have been more honest and given people a warning that performance may actually degrade depending on setup... But HTC like other companies being harassed by Google, have convinced many users to upgrade. Now I probably will have to root phone to go back to speedier kitkat. But as I said in the beginning of the post it is all my fault so got nobody to blame but my self ultimately....I've learnt a lesson.

Did you try the Cache Partition wipe ploy after the update, and even, ghastly business though it is, Factory Resetting?

I think the carriers botched the upgrade process more than anything else.

I've had no issues on Lollipop, though.

Lollipop on my Sprint HK M8 is great. At least as fast or faster than Kit Kat. Battery life is about the same. Completely happy, no looking back.

Lollipop is running smooth on my M8, I have an untouched HTC Lollipop update.

Now if you have a modified carrier Lollipop update, then that's a different story, and you can't really blame HTC for any problems in a carrier update, you are pointing your finger at the wrong direction.

I upgraded to lollipop on my old M8. It wasn't anything special. Hated the fact that I couldn't have lock screen widgets and I didn't like the lock screen notifications. My Battery Life was really awful. Tried all the usual reset device, clear cache but that didn't have any efffect. When my M8 power button became faulty. Sent it back and got a new M8 under warranty. The New one had 4.4.4 out of the box and I've left it at that. I won't update to lollipop. Maybe when Sense 7 comes out, I'll look into it. Other than that I'm really happy with 4.4.4.

Thanks for replies...can you explain how carrier might affect lollipop update? (I'm on Rogers). I'm confused how a carrier might affect system performance. When I updated Rogers bundled some apps but I was able to uninstall them...

Your updates don't come directly from HTC, they come from the carrier. HTC makes sure the software they release works - and Google verifies it. Then they send it to the carriers, who change it and add their own software to it. Then they push it to you by way of an update. That's why some carriers release the updates before others. In the States, Sprint and T-Mobile released it a month before Verizon did, and AT&T is only now releasing it, a good while after VZW released it. It's normally these changes which are applied by the carrier that causes trouble. AT&T and Verizon are especially known for this.

Ok good explanation thanks...makes me wonder when/if I upgrade to HTC M10 next year wether I should buy direct from HTC instead...Thanks again.

If you have the money to buy it, then yep, get an untouched version. As those who goes for a carrier's version they are usually short on cash so they get it on a contract.

For me, I bought my M8 cash, and then subscribed to a carrier service, so they have no business with my M8, as in this case the subscription is linked with the SIM card only and got nothing to do with the device, Also, I get the updates straight from HTC.

I have issues with Work Email which goes through exchange. When on my work wifi it will occasionally not push new email to me.

Wifi at work will also not stay attached consistently. drops and reconnects serveral times an hour.

Other than these two issues Lollipop has been great. Sadly these two issues are a serious blow for a phone that I use FOR WORK AT WORK lol.

Hope the next update (whenever that may be verizon...) clears it all up.

WORK at work? Now why would I do something silly like that? :P

Is the wifi dropping on other devices as well, or just your phone? Email should push automatically, but if there's a connection issue it may disrupt regular email updates.

Haha I know right??

It drops on just my phone. Its apparently a work listed issue with lollipop as a whole and third party apps fix it, at least the email syncing issue. The WiFi issue I have no idea. Rock solid at home, but like a foundation made of jello at work. Was much more solid before lollipop. They could be interconnected but with the email issue being known I think that's likely not the case.

Hmm. I've had no issues with my wifi on Lollipop, but I'm also running a custom ROM, which I understand is not possible for a work phone (my M8 is my personal phone, my GS5 is my work phone - GS5 is stock). I know there were reported issues by people who installed Lollipop or even 4.4.4 ROMs without flashing a firmware update first, but that should have been handled by the OTA updates. Could be worth a shot if you're having issues.

But first, I would recommend wiping cache and dalvik cache and then forgetting the wifi network at work and re-connecting. Maybe forget the network, wipe cache/dalvik cache and then re-connect.

Yeah, I've done all that, short of a custom ROM. I probably could put a custom ROM on here if I wanted as I'm s-off and unlocked but I've gotten to the point that I would rather just not bother with it. Too much time to invest lol.

Appreciate your responses though!
