Just got the DX and not feeling like the battery life is where I would like it to be. Are there any tricks or settings I need to do? Also how do I get it to show in increments of 1 rather than increments of 10?

There's a couple ways to improve battery life, but I bet others have better suggestions...I did want to mention Circle Battery Widget on the Market though...it's free and shows the battery in 1% increments. Also, in case you weren't aware, letting the phone die and charging to full a few times helps a bit too.

Good luck! :)

When you first get the DX you will play with it too much and kill the battery. In a couple of weeks you'll settle into a normal use routine and find that the battery is seemingly lasting longer than before.

Very true, and after a few cycles of fully dead and recharging, mine got much better as well.

From HELL!

Dim screen brigntness all the way.
Turn off WiFi and GPS unless you're using them.
Don't have apps/widgets syncing too often.

That will help tremendously until you're ready to root and learn more tricks like installing a new ROM and undervolting.

as I mentioned to someone else just a minute ago, spend the $25 for a extended battery from gorillagadgets.com its wonderful. Out of the package plug it into the wall til 100% plus an hour, run it down to 10% or less then plug it in using the wall charger til 100 then leave it in for an additional hour for 3-5 times and u will be happy.

This may sound strange, but i read it here and noticed a difference. After you charge your phone for the night, when it is at 100%, take it off the charger, turn it off completely, plug it back in for another 20 minutes or so, and then turn it back on and use it, see if you notice any difference

while that DOES give you more battery life, it also makes your battery wear out faster. As in, you'll have to replace it sooner.

I have found several things that have improved my battery life:
-I always keep wifi on if I'm going to be at home/office and I have a solid connection. Wifi actually uses less battery than trying to find a signal from a tower thousands of feet away especially if you don't have a solid signal.
-Brightness down to 10%. Use a toggle for auto/10% so you can up it quickly if you're outside.
-Take off any widgets you don't use. Also get rid of programs that you may use once a month or less. This will also help with the phone's performance.
-Twitter/Facebook, etc. This is personal preference but everything it checks the server it's going to use battery. If you need to check every 15 minutes then it's going to effect your battery life. If you can down it to 30 minutes or an hour it will help. I check every 4 hours but that's me.
-Don't use task killers, they do more harm than good (my opinion).
-Phone *22899 every two months to update roaming. Might make a small difference.
-If you're not getting service and you're going to be in that location for a while. Turn on airplane mode. You're not getting email anyway, might as well not kill your battery.
-Also, and the best obvious advice I've gotten is, if you can have your phone plugged in...plug it in. If it's just sitting at your desk next to your charger might as well keep it charging.
I generally get about 20 hours a day with moderate use. Once I factory reset and only put the bare minimum back on I got 43 hours with light use. Didn't last forever but it made me realize a lot about the device and what I was willing to sacrifice for great battery life.
-Oh and also, lower the screen timeout to 30 seconds.

definitely customize the stock battery saving profile in your settings - made a huge difference in my battery life

"If you choose to root" A custom Rom will give you the biggest gain in battery life as they remove most of the bloat that came ont he phone, some are even blurless with even less filler. For a new user I'd recommend rubiX Focused 2.0.1 as it's a great blurless beginers Rom, after getting used to it you can try out apeX 1.4 or Liberty 1.5 as they have scripts and toolboxes which allow much more tweaking and customization.

Setcpu will allow you to curb your cpu's power at lower battery life and get some extra time out of it.

"If you prefer to remain stock" A power control widget such as Power Control Plus or Widgetsoid will allow you to make custom control switch panels so you can turn gps, wifi, bluetooth, screen timeout on and off and adjust brightness with the tap of a finger.

Battery Monitor gives you a graph with detailed information on how your battery did through it's charge, what apps used up the most juice etc. so ont he next charge you can finely tune your setup.

There's lots to be done to get extra bettery life, I can go 30 hrs. a charge on the stock battery.

Circle battery Widget shows in incrmements of one but it's just a guesstamate, and an accurate one as well.

I agree with everyone on here. Charge it and completely discharge it 5-10 times and see how that works for you.

I found that setting Atk to "crazy mode" & "when screen is off" safe battery life. I really don't use widgets except beautiful widgets and switch widget. My brightness is high. I use adw launcher ex. Have battery saver mode on. No live wallpaper (got boring after awhile). Im rooted so I used titanium to freeze unnecessary apps. My screen is on for 15 seconds before sleep mode activates. I use lockscreen app to lock phone to sleep mode rather than power button (saves battery). Email syncs when I refresh. Only my corporate email sync constantly. I don't use social networking widgets or blowhorn cause I have apps. Lmao.. I mean, I call it the Noob Standard... have everything on. All widgets. Live wallpaper. Notificaton on all apps set to 15 min. I mean.. there.is.just.no point. After a week or so, you get into a routine as said above and find these widgets to be not needed so much anymore. And you don't need to be rooted to save battery life.... though it helps I admit

Why do not use Task Killers?

I just want to clear what seems to be bad information with regards to battery management. You SHOULD NEVER COMPLETELY DISCHARGE YOUR LITHIUM ION BATTERY. Doing so WILL SHORTEN the life of the battery. These types of batteries do not suffer from "memory effect" like the nickel based batteries.

It should never be suggested to completely discharge these batteries. When you get to your last bar is when you should charge. No matter what the situation is.

Again, a complete discharge shortens the life span of a Lithium-ION battery..

I don't abuse my phone much during the day other than normal texting and pushing emails. Appx 15-20min worth of voice calls. I DO NOT use any form as task killer.

I use a WiFi connection for data 75% of the workday. I have GPS enabled. My Fancy Widget is set to pull location from mobile network as well as GPS (street level selected). Screen timeout is 1min and brightness is set to auto.

The one major thing I have done is rooted the device and uninstalled all the VZW bloatware. Upon powering on the device at 5am it'll have anywhere from 60-70% of battery remaining at 9pm.

My advice, kill the bloatware and let the phone handle itself. That's what it's designed to do.

Task killers only hurt battery life with Froyo. They aren't needed and Google should nuke them in the market place.

After reading this, I decided to dive deeper into AndroidCentral. After reading Jerry's blog... and the entire thread... and a couple of Google articles... and reading this:

Lifehacker, tips and downloads for getting things done

I have come to the conclusion that there could be something bad in regards to task killers... Per the thread and link above, Im going to dump my Advanced Task Killer Froyo... and get Watchdog Task Manager... Ill repost for everyone with my findings...

honestly, im curious to see my results either way. My day is very routine. So what i do in the next 24 hours was practically the same for the past 7 days (except sunday! lol). Im already rooted and use Titanium to freeze my bloatware. Lets see who wins, Watchdog killing 1-2 wild running apps... or ATK killing everything...

sorry forgot about the test.... LOL... well, 2 days later... Clear winner... Watchdog!.. goodbye ATK.... I set the dog to agressive with 20% warning and 40% kill. settings... no the alarm I got once when I was cropping my new profile pic... it was at 23%. But i was done so i didnt kill it. Other than that... nothing!... and I come home at 11pm at 30% and not 20% battery. Thats a 10% increase in battery life. MY daily is very routine. Texting. Bloggin. calling.. facebook and twitterin... lol i USE the phone... so Watchdog has given me much delight in my battery life...

next, phone preformance... I notice alot of app run smoother. I used to get some choppyness here and there on facebook, twitter, Dolphon web... but not not... so smooth.. Im very happy with watchdog! bye Advanced Task Killer
