I'm just curious if anyone here has tried a different battery in the S3 that doesn't change the slim feature ... in other words I don't want to change the back cover ......... is there such an animal out there ?:D

Yes there is. I've bought two so far and both of them have equal or better (just by a little) performance.

Be careful when purchasing. Many of these aftermarket batteries are made by 3rd party manufacturers and don't improve battery performance at all...in fact some may be worse. Also, you may lose NFC features if the battery is compatible.

It's my understanding that Samsung will be doing a upgrade to the Galaxy s3 ... and that the newer phone may have a bigger battery ...without changing it's size ... I imagine one should be able to order that battery for the older model ......... sooo bboy what battery did you order?

I'd have to check my eBay account. I'll post it when I get home from school. Its 3250mah I think. But it didn't perform like one. Im currently using my stock one from Samsung giving me approx 3 hours of screen time. Win the 3rd party one i got about 2 hours and 30 mins.

That's possible. I remember the when the HTC Rezound was released it's battery fit into the Thunderbolt, and lasted a bit longer as well. If Samsung were to continue production of the S3, it's definitely plausible that they would toss a larger battery in it if they had on that fit...although who's to say that they'll put that much effort into S3 production once the S4 comes out?

I still say the stock Samsung battery is your best option if you don't want to use a custom cover to fit a physically larger battery. I would only buy a 3rd party one if it were from a reputable manufacturer with favorable reviews.

Really makes you wonder why they just didn't put a better battery in it in the first place .... face it ... it's like having a dam computer in your pocket that you want to use for everything you can .... I guess they were thinking of the aftermarket sales too ....... big corporations have us like puppets .... dam if you do dam if you don't !

Many reasons...

1. Desire to keep form factor and weight as appealing as possible
2. Desire to keep production costs in line with projected sales and profits
3. Technology available at time of manufacture

I assure that they probably do try to squeeze as much juice in to the size they have to work with, but generally those 3 items listed above will ultimately dictate what goes inside the finished product. For example, they may now have better technology and/or improved production resources that allow them to make batteries that hold more power in the same size that was originally released with the S3, so they'll make it -- but they not have been able to when the S3 was first launched.
