Better temperature management?

Just curious, anyone have suggestions for how to better manage the temperature of their phone? Hit over 100 degrees today (outside temperature-wise) and it basically killed my phone (it's not bricked, but it ended up crashing a lot, needed to have the PRL/Profile reset to get 3G working on it again, and ate through the battery like it was pie at a pie eating contest - over 50% in less than 2 hours). Since I assume this problem will just get worse as the temperature continues to climb, I'm just curious as to whether anyone has some suggestions to help manage the phone's temperature a bit better, or if I should just start turning it off when I plan to be outside for more than a few minutes.

And yes, positive it was the heat that caused the issues... although I did have to reset a few things on the phone, crashing stopped and battery usage leveled off once I'd managed to get to where I was going and cool it down a bit. I also have not had the overclock turned on in about a month or so, since I anticipated some heat-related issues with it during the summer.

Use set CPU and underclock to 122 when screen is off.
I personally don't have a heat issue but I do it to save battery when screen is off.

So far, I've powered off my phone when I know it'll be away from an air-conditioned environment for an extended time period. Not ideal, but in my case, if I'm out in the heat, my attention needs to be focused elsewhere besides my phone.

Underclocking is an option especially if you're overclocked. However my experience with "set CPU" was not good. I'm rooted using cm7 and set CPU force closed 4 times in less than 5 mins. I had to ask for a refund

I actually stopped overclocking awhile back since I figured the extra heat wouldn't be good for it :P

Guess I'll just have to stop using it at the bus stop when the temperature starts to hit 3 digits :(

Lowering the Min clock speed won't do anything. You need to lower the Max clock speed, but I wouldn't lower it too much or you might end up with even worse battery life. You don't have a fan to throttle, so temperature management is mostly out of our hands unless you throttle the Max clock speed with temperature.

Lowering the Min clock speed WILL do something. When the phone is off, aka "sleep", the phone will be running at the Min frequency. Since all the phone will be doing is receiving messages and calls, 122MHz is sufficient for that... 245MHz is not necessary. As far as Max, you can more than get away with it set to 480MHz. I've had my phone set at 122 Min and 480 Max for a few weeks now, and there are no slow downs or temperature problems (in 96 degree weather).
