To be fair, HTC's latest OTA was to rid this. And get this... some of the custom roms still have this exploit.

It's a sense thing for HTC.

how can people check to see if this is installed on there rom or on there stock phone?

I looked for the Carrier IQ app on my application list, just as the author shows in his video, and I don't see it listed on my TB. I happen to be running BAMF 1.09, so maybe it's been removed on the ROM. I'd be interested in seeing if it's listed in the app section on non-custom ROM'd TBs.

Verizon is saying Carrier IQ is NOT on any of their phones, which is apparently why I can't find any evidence of it on my Thunderbolt! (do a Google search for carrier iq not on verizon wireless phones)

In cases like this we can only trust what Verizon has publicly said. They truly may not use this service. However, a few weeks ago they changed their privacy policy, which if you don't opt out sounded like they are using a similar service to Carrier IQ.
