Big problem when installing Jelly Bean OTA

Literally just got the notification after doing the framework > force stop > clear data > check now trick

Downloaded fine. Went to start the install process, everything looking good.

Then about halfway through the progress bar where the little green android is laying down with its hood open, I get a red exclamation mark. And everything stops...

I let it sit for a bit but eventually do a battery pull.

Restarted and everything is fine, still in 4.0.4

What the hell happened? I just did a quick check for updates again and it still says my system is up to date.

I've got to run out so I can't mess with it anymore right now. But why the heck didn't it install right?

I'm unlocked and rooted, which I thought was ok. Should I un-root and lock the bootloader back up?

I got the same error. Is your GNex from outside the US, and flashed to Google ROM? Mine is, so I'm thinking it could be do to that.

Nope, my Nexus is a GSM takju Nexus from the U.S. with stock ROM. Only thing I changed was unlocked bootloader to root.

The trick worked and I'm downloading Jelly Bean now.
I will let you know it installs without issues.

The question is whether you and everyone else is using a completely stock phone or if you, like me, are using an unlocked bootloader/rooted phone.

I've done the trick some more and have the download ready and waiting - just turned off my WiFi so the download stalled.

Waiting to hear more info before I try again.

If that fails, I'll go back completely stock and relock the bootloader with Wug's toolkit and try it a third time.

I have really slow wifi at work, but it's still downloading as I type.
I am 100% stock. Nothing unlocked and not rooted (sorry if that means the same thing).

I just tried the trick on my phone which is completely stock. Worked perfectly. Took about 10 minutes from download to finish.

Swype from my Jelly Bean infected Galaxy Nexus via Tapatalk 2.

When you get the above did you try pressing 'Volume Up' and 'Power' button, it should bring up a menu which should let you flash the downloaded OTP file or perform a reboot without a battery pull.

I wouldn't try this if you are not really sure what you are doing. In-short try at your own risk!

You could go back to it by:
1. Power down the phone
2. Powering down the phone and then start again by pressing 'Volume Up' + 'Volume Down' + 'Power'
3. Once you see a screen with a big 'START', scroll using the volume down until you get to 'Recovery mode'.
4. Press Power button to get the android with the red exclamation mark.
5. Press 'Volume Up' and 'Power' button, it should bring up a menu which (maybe) let you flash the downloaded OTP file.
I don't see the option in mine probably because I didn't download the OTP.
Even if you don't want to flash this should let you reboot without a battery pull.

I got the same problem. My mobile phone is unlocked/rooted. I also have ClockworkMod as recovery, so your solution doesn't work for me.

I ran into the same issue when trying to run the JB OTA after forcing it to show.

GSM Gnex 4.0.4 unlocked bootloader, not rooted. no CWM either.

i'd really appreciate help.

Edit: i should probably add that i got my gnex through the dailysteals deal a few months back. i think it came from Germany and i had to convert it to yakju when i put 4.0.4 on it.

My Nexus is from the Google Play store in the USA, not rooted and the bootloader is not unlocked. I did the Clear Data, Force Stop, Check Now trick 3 times and I got the update. It downloaded and installed fine.

Problem solved!!!

Anyone having issues with the OTA...

IF YOU ARE ROOTED AND/OR UNLOCKED

You need to flash back to stock and re-lock the bootloader.

Worked like a charm once I did that. Going to enjoy me some Jelly Bean now!!! :D :D :D
