I see two different docks for the Bionic. What are the main differences before I buy one?

The standard dock (what you're calling the charging dock) is just that, cept it appears to have an audio connection on it as well.

The HD Dock is much more. It has HDMI out for a TV/Monitor, 3 USB Ports for accessories (Keyboard, mouse, etc..) and an audio jack as well.

EDIT: Also, the HD Dock has a Remote Control, though i'm not sure what it all works with.

There are three Home Docks (well, 4 with the LapDock)

Standard Dock - Just USB for charging and oddly enough a audio port.
HD Station - Same as above but adds the HDMI port/additional USB.
Battery Dock - Can charge a 2nd Battery and the Bionic (if you have another Dock, you plug the wall adapter into the Battery Dock and use the short cable to connect to the Dock's usb.

I think the HD Station comes with a Remote.

Standard dock will only charge the phone. Works great if you want to put it on your night table next to your bed. The phone will go into "clock" mode once it's docked.

The HD dock contains a micro HDMI port, along with 3 USB ports. This works great if you plan on keeping the dock next to your TV set. If you connect a keyboard and mouse into the USB ports, I believe webtop will kick in. But I haven't tried that yet.

Just FYI, I picked up an HD dock and I'm taking it back. I won't fit the phone with the extended battery on. This will not work for me. When I asked the VZ sales rep if the phone would fit with the extended battery he replied, "Yes". This guy was sadly misinformed. (Imagine that!):p

HD dock does launch webtop application when plugged into a tv or monitor. You can then hard plug a mouse and keyboard or just use a wireless keyboard. This is what was explained to me, so I plan on vying the HD dock so I can plug phone into tv, sit back on my couch with bluetooth mouse and keyboard or logos expensive wireless mouse and keyboard and use my tv to web browse, stream video, games etc... sounds pretty cool to me.

You can pop out the little tray insert and it will fit. First hand experience. I took it back because remote wouldn't work though.

Wondering, if one were to open the Charging/Standard dock and then "fix" all the wires in the USB connection where they would all be connected you would be able to get it more like the old Droid 1's dock.

Right now the fact it's a charging dock just means the power from USB is being passed through, not the other 2 pins.

At some point I might try this.. problem is getting it open w/out destroying it. Seems the top is snapped in.
