Bionic screen the same size as the HD?... 4.5?

So, I didn't use a fancy program, I actually used a post-it note, lol so don't crucify me or anything.

I measured the screen sizes of the BIONIC and the HD from the Engadget photos and they were surprisingly similar, I mean, I couldn't really notice a difference. To me it looks like their screens are the same size.

I know the FCC docs said it's a 4.3, but then again they also showed the DROID X in some of the photos. As far as I know we don't have any concrete facts on the screen size yet. I'm just saying.

I used the photo of them with their screens off and zoomed way in. I realize that the photo is not straight on, but it's darn close. Can someone with AutoCAD or something confirm?

Has this seriously not been officially confirmed yet? I thought we knew for certain it's 4.3". I've been wrong many times before, though...

All the pictures that came out yesterday clearly stated that the Bionic has a 4.3" qHD screen.

Yeah bionic is very much confirmed at 4.3

IMO one thing that you could be seeing in the pic next to the HD is where the Bionic has buttons on the bottom, the "buttons" on the HD might actually be on the screen, a la ICS. Hence the screen can be larger even if the dimensions on the devices are about the same.

I think this is a mistake in regards to the specs of the HD. I said in the HD forums that the screens look like the same size to me. I have a good monitor and can see on the side by side that they look identical. At least from the endgadget pics they look identical.

I thought the same thing.

Jasaero over at HoFo took the side-by-side pics from Engadget and edited them so you can clearly see the display area on both phones. He felt that they were the same size too. However, I took a ruler to my monitor and measured the display area of both phones. My results showed the the HD's was a little bigger by almost two-tenths of an inch. FWIW

Additionally the "buttons" on the bottom of the HD, which only appear when the screen is on btw, aren't the typical Moto buttons. The design looks a LOT like how icons in Honeycomb look.. And since ICS is supposed to be for both smartphones and tablets, I think that supports that we're looking at ICS and a full front screen that is extending to where the buttons would normally be.

Looking at how they have implemented it, I'm not sure why they even did away with the regular capacitive buttons. They are almost identical, though possibly smaller.

My guess is so that there is more screen real estate for viewing full screen when watching videos and the like. I'm imagining it'll be like the Youtube app where the controls disappear until you tap on the screen again.

Negative. You can see where the screen ends. The buttons are below the screen.

By screen I mean actual viewing area.

You have to compare each of the 4 sides together. Because of the camera angle, you have to compare side for side and you will find them the same.

Both Best Buy Ads leaked today and the Tips/Tricks pamphlet that got leaked yesterday all say 4.3" I think 4.5" should be well off the table now.

My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who saw a 4.5" screen on the Droid Bionic. I guess it's back on the table.

:p

I don't think you can tell that definitively from the pics. You have to agree that they aren't the usual moto buttons tho and they look more honeycomb like than anything on a phone, no?
