Bixby Battery Hog - Now Battery Back to Normal

Samsung's voice assistant, Bixby, has widely criticized since it's announcement, release, and subsequent updates.

My own experience - even if you shut down your Samsung account, and disable the "Bixby Button", it still tries to push you into using it. Over the past few months, I have noticed a significant change in battery performance. The culprit? Bixby.

Having enough with Bixby, I took the time to research the best thing to do for me, until I can get into a Pixel XL 2.

My saving grace, XDA forums and ADB. Using the ADB tool, I was able to make Bixby unavailable for me to use (all without rooting my phone!). The APKs are still on the phone, and if the phone ever gets factory reset, Bixby will be back again like nothing ever happened.

Put simply, it only took me 10 minutes using the correct commands in ADB to simply make all of the Bixby APKs unavailable to me.

So I have an unmapped button...who cares? Better than the headache of shutting off the Bixby button, having it turn itself back on, and being barraged into using Bixby at every turn.

Disabling Bixby using ADB did not require root, doesn't violate warranty, and aside from having a useless button, had ZERO negative impact on my S8+.

Bixby-Free, and my battery life is beyond gorgeous now!

Indeed it was. Top of the list. Not trusting it, I used a third-party app - 'lo and behold, Bixby was still at the top. Yes, I tried putting it to 'sleep', force stopping, restarting, factory reset, the works. So like I said, finally just got so fed up with it, I shut it down :-)

I'm lucky then, as all updates installed, and changed settings in it not to use the button. Thankfully it doesn't show on my battery statistics

So glad you were able to disable Bixby and that you are now experiencing better battery life!

But Samsung made it easy to turn off. To set Bixby to off.

I bought $1.99 bxActions to use the button for another purpose.

Bixby commands look more like a macro, multiple steps to carry out a series of actions. "Start my day, Bixby" and have your coffee ready, turn up thermostat, read news, mail, messages, weather and stock market. Whatever you want.

But Samsung wants in on home automation coupled with Samsung appliances. So it could turn on TV, turn on lights, then turn down heat when you leave. Bixby isn't going away.
