Bixby on the note 8

Well I guess they consider Bixby a part of the phone, and those seem to sell quite well lol. I admittedly don't use a car mount that has to hold my device. Mine is magnetic and charges wirelessly at the same time. That sucks to be hitting it all the time.

what is your car mount?

iPhones can disable Siri so your argument about they are forcing you to use Bixby like Apple is not accurate.

I use the Mophie Car Mount. I bought an adhesive magnet off of Amazon as well. I didn't use the adhesive but just stuck it in between my case and my phone at the bottom and I'm able to dock my phone on the mount and get wireless charging even when I'm not using my mophie case (I rarely use it cause my S8+ gets such good battery life).

I seem to be one of the few that are interested in trying it out. I am kind of excited to try Bixby.

I have messed around with it on my S8 a little. It's not bad, just waaay to slow compared to Google Assistant. It has some nice features, and if you are familiar with Samsung's Briefing app (a watered down Flipboard when you swipe right to left) it replaces it with similar functionality.

Like all AI, it's just going to get better over time.

Well that's true, but its close to the volume button, easy to push by mistake or if you use a car mount, easy to push.

If bixby is really the next best thing to sliced bread, they wouldn't have to force it on us, we all would leave it on even if we were allowed to turn it off.

I for one won't use it because they are trying to force us to use it. That's a turn off to me and makes me go out of the way to not use it.

That reasoning is absurd

I've pushed it by mistake more than once. I'm so used to the volume having 2 separate buttons. The s8 has 1 volume rocker and 1 Bixby. So yeah. When Bixby opens I push the button again and it closes. Unobtrusive to me. I've never set it up, but I will try it on my N8. Nothing lost but a little time in seeing what it's about.

I am one of few who actually use Bixby. So I don't mind it so much.

You're not alone buddy, I'm a Bixby fan too! The way I see it, Bixby isn't a replacement to Google Assistant, it's a separate tool used to do different things. I use Bixby multiple times a day, and the fact that I can get Samsung Rewards points (= US dollars!) doesn't hurt.

For those of you who hate Bixby: hey, to each his own. I'm pretty sure whatever works for Bixby-blocking on the S8 will work on the Note 8. And conversely, whatever Samsung does to block package disablers can be trivially re-implemented on the S8 via a software update. I think Samsung would be sort of a jerk to do this, and I hope they don't. All I'm saying is that sticking with the S8 and avoiding the Note 8 isn't an effective means of avoiding Bixby.

Well said my friend, well said.

Siri doesnt have a dedicated button like Bixby. With Siri you either access it or not. Samsung arrogance that Bixby is as deserving of a hardware button as VOLUME or POWER is why everyone is so upset. Bixby is still experimental IMO and to not be able to reassign the button is insulting to Android users.

Bixby is something I've accepted I'll just have to deal with if I get a Note 8.

My girlfriend has an S8 and is afraid of it(bixby). wont set it up, wont use it ever. I think it's confusing to people who just now got to understand what google assistant is. Or people who still open chrome to do google searches.

Heck, maybe those are the people Samsung is going after. The people that wonder why their galaxy phone doesn't have a Siri.

It's hard for the AC crowd to understand but there are people out there like this. People that spend $800 on a device to call, text and get directions.

My point was that the OP stating Apple was forcing Siri on its customers without any option to disable it which was not accurate so Samsung is much worse than Apple in that regard.

I was more or less saying that too then went on a rant. But more to the point it's not even an argument because you really shouldnt even have to turn off Siri. Siri int in the way on a dedicated button like Bixby. Bixby is there, on a button, in your way. Something you would be able to turn off. and it isnt.

I hate the bixby button and all that it stands for. LOL

I love the Bixby button for what it stands for. Like the SPen, it starts as an experimental productivity tool that only a few will initially use, but that Samsung sees as having greater potential mass market appeal.

For those who don't like it, there is already development in third party apps to disable the functionality or remap the button to other functions.

But for those who do like the idea, it offers a way to make the devices it works on even more useful and usable as the personal assistant and user agent functions of these devices come closer to AI level compatibility.
