I've got a Samsung S10 and I just noticed a black dot in the status bar immediately above the 4G icon (screen shot below), and I'm wondering what it's indicating. Any ideas?

That does seem weird.

Can't say I've ever seen that before.

Since it is in the screen shot, it's obviously graphically placed there and not a physical screen defect. But it's also above the top line of the icons. The width can vary, but usually the height is fixed. That dot is way above the height-line.

It's still there in Safe Mode. I'm starting to wonder about screen pixel failure. I've ever seen that before and wouldn't expect it to be so perfectly round. It looks suspiciously similar in shape and position to the green indicator which shows when your camera or microphone is in use (though it's a bit larger and the position is off).

I was wondering that myself, and I agree that it looks too perfectly round to be dead pixels.

If you view a blank white video in fullscreen, do you still see the dot? Try this one:

Dead pixels wouldn't be seen in a screenshot.

Dead pixels wouldn't be seen in a screenshot.
Aha! I couldn't figure out why screenshot didn't include the dot, so after a couple attempts, I edited the screenshot and added the dot to show what I'm seeing. (It is very accurate reproduction of location, size & shape. 🙂) At that point, I wasn't thinking dead pixels, but Im confident that's what it is.

It is strange that it's perfectly round but maybe it's something to do with a circuit controlling that group of pixels? This phone is starting to show its age and I've put off getting a replacement for too long.

Thanks for the helpful responses.

When something doesn't show up in a screenshot, it can be helpful to take a picture of the screen using some other device's camera, and then share that. Are you able to do that?
