Black screen after Power on

After I did the updates my screen turns black after I turn on the tab at the swipe screen. I have to hit the home button for the screen to come on. However it will immediately go back off again until I swipe the screen and get to the main page. Why would it black screen right after you turn on the tab? Seems like a software issue.

I'm confused? I think every tablet does that? It sounds like it takes a lot of time to turn on the screen
