Black screen after update

I just did a system update. The main screen turned black. When it is idle I can see the clock and notifications on the screen. I can see the unlock screen and the icon bar at the top. I can drag down to see the icons and notifications. I can open it in safe mode and everything works. I uninstalled all recently installed apps but it is still not working. Any other ideas? Do I need to clear my phone and reinstall the system software? Thanks.
