Black screen but home buttons along the bottom light up and have sound

My samsung galaxy s2 took a dive off the counter to the tile floor....to make things worst a heavy three ring binder fell on top of it in the process. Now when I push the power button the screen stays black but the bottom row of icons lights up. The sound works perfectly. I can receive phone calls and texts. I can answer phone calls by guessing where to place my finger and slide to the right. The phone appears to be fully functional except I can't see anything on the screen. Turning off/on the phone doesn't fix it. HELP!

Welcome to Android Central! Can you see anything if you shine a flashlight directly against the screen? That would make me think the digitizer is intact, but the backlight is broken. You probably need to bring it to a cellphone repair shop.

when I shined a flashlight on it the only thing I saw was a crack down the very edge of the left side of the phone about half of the length of the phone . Would this crack have caused the black screen? Could the crack have broken something? Is it fixable? I've never cracked a screen before but I've seen fully functional touch screen phones work with severely cracked screens....help!

Difficult to say. It's probably fixable, but I would recommend going to a professional repair shop. It'll cost a bit of money, though, so if you're close to being eligible for an upgrade from your wireless provider, it might not be worth it to pay for the repair. You might want to use a backup phone for now (if you have one) or buy a used one cheap on eBay to use until your upgrade date comes around, then buy a new phone.

hi, Ive had the same issue with my phone but i cant see anything when i shine a light on it, especially no cracks.
There was a software update on it the same day so I dont know if that might be the cause of it?
Hope you can help since its only just been recently repaired!!

hey i have the same issue with my android phone...
it is dropped unfortunately...no damage caused but display is not working only home buttons are lighting up plz...
im tensed...can we fix this...is it a severe problem....????
