black screen

My samsung galaxy s 3 screen has gone black twice today.Nothing works. The phone is on my desk now acting like the battery dead.It was at 50% before this happened. The only I could fix it before was to do a battery pull

all i can suggest is make sure its fully updated, factory reset or return it but i hope someone offers a proper explanation/cure though

Silly as it may sound, have you tried pressing the 'Back' button? I've seen several occasions where the screen looked black but if you looked closely you could see that the backlight was on.

@ Nick Nippert I have not installed any new apps in last seven days..@ Mad_Dawg_ I have no custom ROM. @GsDer I am certain the screen was totally black. no back light was on.@funkylogik if it does it again I will try a factory reset. Then if it happens again will take phone to Verizon and show them so they will believe me

good idea with the backing out but phones with screen like the s3 have no backlight so black is black (zero light) on an LED screen, each pixel lights up when it has to, black=all pixels powered off
