Black style watch face

I have just had a notification from Google play protect telling me to uninstall a watch face I bought from the Google play store called black style watch face because the app is fake and tries to take over your phone or steal your data. I have been using this watch for over a year and I see that it has been removed from the play store now, how can a watch face steal my data or take over my phone and how did it get into the play store to start with?
