I've done it. I found instructions at XDA. It was difficult getting three phone onto download mode the first time. I didn't remove the bloatware just froze it. It makes no difference to anything. But being able to run SetCPU is good for battery life.

Do you have the link? What is SetCPU and what is it for? Sorry I am a newbie to the Android world. I still haven't figured out how to take a screenshot for crying out loud.

Home button + power for screen shot.

I don't have the link but just go to the blaze forum at xda-developers . com and there's a sticky. Not hard to root, I had the most trouble getting into download mode because the instructions are wrong and no one has fixed them. (it tells you to plug the usb cable into your computer and not the phone while turning it on, wtf is that supposed to do??) It also says to hold volume buttons and put the battery in the turn it on... Instead what I did was I think hold volume down (?) and plug the usb cable in (already attached to the computer) I don't remember exactly but I think that's what it was..

Sounds right to me. If you get adb set up and USB debugging turned on, you can use the "adb reboot download" command as well.

Thanks for the replies. I will look into XDA and see if I can find the thread. All of these android terms are still very new to me so my level of understand is not where it should be as of yet.

I'm going to hold off rooting until the ICS update (still haven't seen an ETA though). ICS will give you the ability to freeze the bloatware.

What is adb setup?

adb = android debug bridge, lets you communicate with the device via your PC

I know the Blaze is supposedly "in the queue" for ICS update, but I'm deeply skeptical that it will ever happen. It costs money to get an update ready for a device and push it out. I don't see any incentive for Samsung or the carriers to do it. The Blaze didn't sell well in the first place, and is already superseded by a newer model. I think if there was any real intention of putting ICS on this device, it would have happened months ago.

So, in my opinion, if you want to root, just do it and forget about ICS. You may never see it.

Also, the ics app freeze requires root to work. Rooting is incredibly simple, you can flash over a prerooted kernel using ODIN, or you can flash over a version of cwm recovery in ODIN and use that to flash su.
