Started getting a blinking red led, didn't set anything to red, and battery is at 70%...

Any idea?

Negative.

started today, no apps installed in almost 2 weeks

I did get some sort of update today, but I don't know what it was...

Download addonsdetector (Add ons detector) from the app market. Press the "scan" button, then click the "by date" (or something similar) button. It will tell you which apps were installed by date order. It will list them in date order, even if it was an update, it will list it as its "install" date.

I cleared some texts and it stopped doing it.. Had over 7k for the few weeks I've had the phone....

The red LED is a missed notification, ie text, VM, call, etc on my stock Photon

Sorry I was late on this, but looks like some good info for others that are unaware

stock, green was text or email, red is battery critical...

i have blink led installed and changed my colors, but have never set anything to red. ever

I have one contact whose texts always come up marked "urgent", and cause the red LED. Neither of us knows why his texts always do that.

Your friend has urgent set by default on his text messages to you. If he has an Android phone. To check.....1. Go to text messaging app 2. Have him attempt to text you something. 3. Before sending options button (depending on phone but the one next to the home button). 4. Go to more options. 6. Go to set priority. 7. Change it to normal. 8. Send text ........No flashing red led.

He has a Blackberry, and says he hasn't set anything that way. Doesn't matter much, but the OP may have a similar situation.

Bb are odd...

Think mine was ultimately low text storage... Had a lot of texts saved

What was probably happening as it seems you've discovered, is this phone alerts you (red led) to high CPU or RAM consumption.

Menu>task manager>menu>settings -notifications

Funny thing is I checked that and its set to not notify... I did read on google the text storage, so I killed all my 1000+ message conversations...

Space management is a necessary evil on these mini-computers so heres some things i do which helps keep me running smooth.

- I restrict the amount of messages per convo. This can be done inside the texting app. From the main screen of the app press menu>message settings-message limit. I keep mine at 100. If a message is really important i lock it to prevent it from being deleted. I save any MMS pictures (if necessary) and delete them after looking.

- I keep my call log clean. This can be done from the "recent" tab in the dialer. Open the app, press Menu>clear list. I'm not OCD about it but once every week or two i save any numbers that werent already (if necessary) then clear the log.

- I manage the cache of my apps. I am VERY OCD about this. Apps can chew up space with their cache and in my opinion our phones are so fast that the objective of storing cache is negated because theres no lag as is. I wrote a tasker script which executes on screen off to wipe cache but anyone can download the free app History Eraser from the play market which includes a setting to wipe caches every time the screen is shut off.

- I manage my browser data. This is another one im OCD about and can eat space really fast if you do a lot of mobile browsing. The phone is storing history, cache, cookies, login data (if you allow), etc etc. From the stock blur browser these can be cleared by opening the browser then Menu>More>Settings - Clear cache, clear history, clear cookies.
If you prefer alternative browsers some, like dolphin and dolphin mini, include the option to wipe cache and history everytime you exit the browser.

I keep a very clean device, and in return rarely experience issues that i didnt cause myself. Hope these tips help someone.

I just didn't realize that the messaging limit was so small on the photon... Got plenty of room on the phone but i, keep it at 1000 because I dont like to delete texts...

You may want to consider something like the app sms backup + which will backup your texts into gmail. Can restore also but atleast then the texts will be available via gmail and not using space on the phone.
