Is it recommended to do a recovery and a NAND backup before removing bloatware? Want to make sure before I do.

Do I only need to do a recovery if I use a custom rom or....? Main reason I rooted is to remove the bloatware

Yes, once you root, you should load the custom recovery.

Once you load the custom recovery, immediately do a full nandroid backup!

That way, if you make changes that screw up the phone, you can revert
back to a working configuration and start over.

Don't start deleting anything until you make a nandroid backup!

Also, you can dump a copy of it to your computer or burn to a CD/DVD

The backup will be on your sdcard under /backup folder.

If you just plan to root to remove the bloatware. I would would say look into a app called "bloat freezer" it's developed by one of the guys from AC. It will freeeze any bloat apps you want it to so that they are not using any data or ram.

Thanks for recommending Bloat Freezer :D

No nandroid backup required with Bloat Freezer, but no harm in doing one if you would like.

But I may need the storage space. wouldn't removing them increase internal space?

Also, is there a safe list around? I've seen one for OPTI M but I can't find one for my S.
