BLOCKED SAMSUNG S4 please help

Hi I brought a Samsung S4 mini off a lady as she found it too small. All went well for 1 month then bang, blocked phone and it's about as useful as a brick. Is there anything I can do to get it working again? as out of pocket and no phone. Any advice would be appreciated, many thanks

The nasty piece of work then reported it missing, so the network provider has blocked the phone, so can't make/receive calls or messages

I don't think that there is anything you can do about it as you were not the original registered owner. In other words she (and her carrier) still had full control over the device until the imei number is registered under your name/carrier. Try a factory reset. I don't know what else to suggest beyond that.
