Why am I completely incapable of getting my Win10 computer to see my phone? My phone simply does not recognise that a USB cable is plugged for data transfer. Yes, even when I chose to switch it to media transfer. Don't know what to do. Can anyone suggest anything?

So when you connect via USB, does a USB icon appear in the phone's notification panel? If so, and if that's how you're choosing MTP, then open Windows Explorer on your PC, and look in the device list -- is the phone listed there?

No, it's not. USB icon does not appear.

Have you tried a different USB cable? Some cables are intended only for charging, and cables can also fail.

Yes. In fact, this is my wife's phone and mine is identical. I don't mean same model, I mean identical. Same firmware, same OS version, same everything. And when one cable works on mine, it doesn't on my wife's.

It might be an issue with the microUSB port, then. First, make sure the port is clear of debris -- use a can of compressed air to blow it out.

Compressed air is pretty cheap -- you can get it at your local office supply store (like OfficeMax or Staples). You can also try using a toothpick to root around, but it might be too thick.

I've tried every way I can think of to clean the USB port, it's not making a difference. Is this really a problem that can't be fixed? We're so careful with our phones, never drop them, etc.
