bluetooth pairs, plays media, i can give it commands but no telephone mic/audio.

So there it is in a nut shell. Does everything but be able to hear or talk on phone calls. I've tried soft and factory reset. Tried formatting SD card on comp and factory reset. Tried lots of apps, pairing and unpairing. Tried different bluetooth device and same problem. My wife has same phone and no issues, except with power button. That b a different topic. What can I do? Root my phone? Any zip patches?
