Bluetooth/radio/source issues

I have an older truck with Uconnect that supports Bluetooth but doesn't have Android auto integration.

My phone is a Google pixel xl. When I connect to Bluetooth, the truck only listens or plays sounds when the source is set to Bluetooth. I'd like to use Android auto even with the radio on. Others online say it works for them.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Additionally, I notice is only the assistant's mic that doesn't record anything. If I use the chrome mic (which uses the speech to text service), the phone hears it.

Your issue is with the truck radio, not the phone. The truck radio can only play one source at a time (most older radios are like this, I'm not sure how factory-installed radios with AA do this) so it plays either Bluetooth or your Android output.

As far as the mic, there are two mics - one for phone calls other than speakerphone calls, the other for everything else. Assistant probably is listening to the Bluetooth input, not the mic. If the radio has no mic (for making phone calls), Google assistant won't work when you're connected to the radio. (And the radio would have to be on Bluetooth if it did work - on Radio [Tuner], there's no mic unless you're on a phone call.)
