BN Nook rooted - ALOT of apps not compatible, hard reset ?

Brand new to Android, l-o-n-g-t-i-m-e PalmOS, webOS power user. (I'm likely to come fully to Android very soon, since HP all but killed webOS for phones.)

Picked up a Color Nook fairly cheap and started messing with it within an hour after getting it, planning to turn it into an Android tablet.

Rooted CM on fairly easily.

Think I may back up and go the route of dual-boot, putting CM on the SD card, so to be able to still have the stock Nook option available.

Question 1: Is there a significant difference in speed with CM on the device vs. on the card? (Using a 16GB class 6 card if it matters.)

Question 2: Does the 8-power-down-in-a-row method work with taking the rooted Nook back to stock or do I need to follow the more involved software method?

In searching through the forum(s), have seen that there have been some issues with apps "not compatible" with the rooted Nook, with some workarounds. I've had A LOT of apps give me the error - Kindle, Google Maps, Advanced Task Killer, Astro, Youtube, Slacker Radio, QuickPic, TV.com... this is not complete, but I listed as many as I can remember in case they all share the same problem.

Last questions: Anything I can do differently with the Android-boot-from-SD process? If not, is the fix the same for all apps?

Find the thread on now to uninstall the new version of Android Market and perform this uninstall so you can revert back to the older version. For whatever reason, the new Android market (which is uglier than the old one anyway) reports alot of incompatible apps. The old one does not.

If you use nightly 200 it has the dpi set to 160 by default so market should work fine.

Thanks to you both. Saw the revert-to-the-old-Market thread. Wasn't sure if it applied to all my screwiness or not. Will also take a look at the dpi setting as well.

So far, loving the cheap tablet!

Hope it works out. We followed similar paths. PalmOs far before smartphones. - webos. Rooted nook gave me enough taste of android to push me to a Samsung Charge this week! As they say at Precentral I've gone over to the dark side

On other parts of your question, I find booting off SD card perfectly acceptable performance wise. And I do switch back to stock occasionally for things that are specifically nook color. With SD boot all you have to do is powerdown and remove the SD card and it will boot up stock nook. Easy to switch back and forth.

I've also got CM7 on my SD card, and do like being able to use the stock NC sometimes.

I also had the apps incompatiblility issue. Used LCD Resolution to set the dpi/density to 160. [Have not installed the latest nightlies.] Set Android Market back to earlier version using one of my apps managers. Still had some issues, notably w Google Books.

Then installed Amazon Appstore app [in quest of that free daily app....], and after that, GBooks worked. Maybe a coincidence...

I have CM on my internal memory. There were a number of app's that would give me the NOT COMPATIBLE on this device. I just loaded the new CM 7.1 yesterday and all of the app's that said were not compatible before, loaded up just fine with the new version

That is because the dpi is fixed in the 7.1 stable.

If you are using CM7 off the internal memory, use ROM Manager to download and update. Only wipe Davlik and add gaaps when prompted. If running off the SD card, drop a copy of the new CM7 ROM onto the boor partition of the card when in a card reader, put it in the Nook and reboot.
