This is the final release of the v4 Bonsai series (Froyo) for the Samsung Epic. We are in early beta with the v5 Bonsai series (Gingerbread) and are making this bug fix release in the interim for what is our most stable ROM version.

The changes in this release are minor updates to resolve an issue where some people were getting device lockups while typing text input in virtual keyboard, dialer apps, etc. We believe that this release has solve what appears to be a memory leak that leads to these issues.

The most significant change in this release is a switch to a new packaging and installer scripting functionality. We believe that this will solve many (all?) of the installation inconsistencies that we have been seeing. We have been using this new install process on the Bonsai v5 beta ROM as well as our new Samsung Tablet ROM with great success. The only downside is lack progress reporting during the install process. Please be patient. It will complete.

As part of the changes in the installation process, we have also decided to default to journaling enabled for any new installation. If you have installed Bonsai v4.1.1 or later, then this installation will honor your previous configuration preferences. Please see the release notes for more information about why we have switched to journaling enabled.

We have also made the change to use the ondemand governor for cpufrequency. The increased phone performance that we get using this governor has been quite popular in the Gingerbread Bonsai v5 testing. However, there is some sacrifice in battery life. If you are not happy with battery performance with this release, we recommend that you revert the configuration to use the conservative cpufrequency governor.

One other minor change is to finally fix the issue with configuring bypass of the Sprint proxies for web content access. If you see any negative impact in web browsing or other content streaming, please report the issue in the Bonsai forums so we can investigate further.

This is a Froyo based ROM. The Bonsai team is currently testing a Gingerbread based ROM in limited release.

Please see the Installation documentation for step-by-step install instructions.

Please see the release notes for specific information about this release.

Good stuff Randy! Running v4.1.1 since beta time and it is in my opinion the most stable and reliable ROM put out to date hands down. I've thrown so much at this ROM running themes and developing themes for use on it and it holds up to numerous flashings and system/app pushes all day long without a hickup. You and Mammon have done an excellent job and can't wait to see what the future holds beyond this final Froyo release ;)

Yes I have tested out GB-Bonsai v5.x and its impressive too!

Flashed in CWM no wipes over Bonsai v4.1.1 and all is smooth sailing....

Been running this for about four hours. So far so good. No freezes while texting like I had before, so far. Seems nice and smooth.

4.1.3 has been working perfectly, been running it since it was posted. Was running the kernal patch before, the new market was nice to see on the release of 4.1.3.

My Epic has been running fine since installing the new version. My wife, I did a fresh Odin to EB13 and then rooted using the Bonsai Master Key Unlocker and right into the new version and she has had a few lockups on texting. This morning before she left for work it locked up again while texting her boss...

FYI, I have no SetCPU or any kernel app control installed on her device. Its just running the kernel with no changes. Could this be an issue?

Any thoughts Randy?

Last night I decided to give Bonsai 4.1.3 a try and did a Odin to EB13 and then used Master Key Unlocker followed by flashing Bonsai 4.1.3. As soon as my phone re-booted I had a low memory message. I tried re-flashing 4.1.3 and eventually started over with a fresh EB13 again but the low memory problem continued until I did a factory reset. I have flashed quite a few ROM’s but this is the first time I had to do a factory reset AFTER flashing the ROM. Not a big deal but it took me some time before I tried the data wipe.

Everything has been running fine since.

No! Don't tell me this.

I'm using Bonzai 4.1.1 right now and I'm not sure if this is an issue with my version of Bonzai or the Epic in general, but I can't get a credit card swiper from Intuit to work on the phone. They say it's compatible with the phone. The reader connects to the phone through the audio jack and it requires that the media volume be at full and of course I've turned it up as high as the controls will allow. Is a mic limit set in the ROM? Has anyone heard of issues with this kind of device?

I've been a Bonsai guy since I first rooted. Glad to see the development continuing. Just flashed the new version (4.1.3) and it's going well.

One problem I've had, I doubt it's a Bonsai issue, but if anyone has any suggestions...
My phone and messages, the contacts photos are the generic silhouette and not my contacts photos. I've noticed that the friends who have a facebook linked contact this is the case and those who only have a google account and have added a photo to their google account the photo shows.

-Moderator, feel free to spin this off into the appropriate place (sorry, i went on a tangent)

I've been able to replicate this freezing issue while entering text, but only when touch input sounds are enabled. We are working to eradicate this issue, but for now you can disable any sounds related to touch input, and you shouldn't experience the freeze/lock up.

I don't have the credit card device, but it may be an issue with VooDoo sound. If you have the VooDoo control app installed, check the mic settings.

Thanks. Nice try, but I don't have VooDoo sound. Any idea how best to clean the phone jack contacts? I really don't think that's it, but it's worth a try.

UPDATE: VooDoo sound wasn't the problem, but instead turned out to be a solution to the problem. After downloading it, I turned up the sensitivity of the mic and everything works now.

I forgot to mention one other thing that's been happening since I flashed Bonsai. I keep bluetooth off since I don't use it very often but it always turns on by itself when the phone is in power save hibernation. If that by design or is there a ghost in the machine?

Randy and Paul,

Just flashed the new version (4.1.3) came SFR and all is going well. But I have questions not sure if it's the Rom or setting that I can't find. We I'm receive phone call (yeah I know who calls anymore). I slid the phone up to answer the call and then if tells me who is calling, press 1 to answer or something to send it to voice mail.

Any help who be great.

Thanks
