From the reviews I read the 10 doesn't seem to be as loud as the M9 and M8 and many say it isn't as loud at all. Also depending on how you hold it it can sound muffled. Sounds like a step back to me. Between this and mediocre battery life and HTC not getting their act together with their camera software again I am beginning to lose interest in the phone. The Canadian price and carrier support doesn't help either. Looks like another uphill battle for HTC. I guess I will have to see what the Nexus HTC brings to see if that addresses these issues.

Dude, get the phone in your hands yourself and see what you think and not what people say in reviews.

Perhaps I am wrong, but I always thought that boom sound really only kicked in when head phones were connected. The reviews that I read really praised the HTC 10 for the sound through the head phones. Seems to me like they got that right.

Admittedly, not having the two front facing speakers may mean the sound through those isn't as loud as previous models, though again, what I read was that the sound through those was no worse.

Dude. I have to rely on reviews because it is only being sold online around here.

From what I read, they separated the sound by tweeter and bass. The tweeter is front facing and the bass is not since bass doesn't have to be directional.

Michael fisher confirmed on his Twitter that the speakers aren't as loud as the previous iteration and don't sound as rich.

When I get mine I'll be comparing it against my Nexus 6...who's speakers did actually impress me. Also, my father has a One M7 for another comparison point.

So you must not live in the US.

To be fair -- he did say that in his OP :). I rely a lot on reviews for some phones because the carriers either didn't have them or whatever (such as the 6P when I got it). Just have to ensure you trust the reviewer that you're reading from! :D.

Selective reading, perhaps? I've read that the quality of the sound is improved, even if the volume hasn't. Personally, I've found that if I'm not holding my M8 or sitting next to it I need my bluetooth speaker. I don't really see any scenarios where having slightly less volume than my M8 is going to be a hindrance. However, I can see how better sound quality from the speakers is going to be appreciated on a daily basis.

The problem is the M8 had good volume and clarity but the M9 doesn't really have either and now the 10 may have better clarity but lower volume than the M9, which I find to low. The M8 was good for both volume and clarity.

The m8 is perfect phone. Only problem is the fact it doesn't have removable battery, if so I would stick with mine for another 2 years! As such I am in the look out for a new phone but even the M10 doesn't really seem exciting, there's no IR blaster and now people saying the loudspeaker volume is low, that sucks!!

Add to that "magically swap out camera module" and I completely agree. I really wish I could have an M8 with the 10s internals and the S7 camera.

Make it so.

Far too much speculation and guessing, IMO. I've not seen anything that leads me to believe the 10 has the same or less clarity than the 8, but I'm very interested in trying them out side by side. Those just looking for reasons not to buy another phone can always find theoretical issues but we're talking about mixed opinions from phone reviewers (who are rarely good critics of photo and sound) so I think it's a mistake to decide if you like it based on that. I feel we should actually try the things first before bringing them to the court of public opinion.
