So I've seen various discussion about incorporating boot animations into ROMs, or at least removing the Sprint animation (and sound), but got the feel that it was a difficult process to graft a new one into the system.

Have you folks seen this?

[BOOT ANIMATION] The Droids - xda-developers

He's got a few there to try (we use the 320x480 btw). All you need is a zip file named bootanimation.zip in /data/local. The zip file contains a desc.txt which tells the system, presumably, the resolution and where to look for files, and some other parameters I haven't figured out yet, and then a folder of images. I coped one to my phone using Root Explorer and rebooted, and lo-and-behold it works! It replaced the ANDROID animation. I'm currently running TR 1.6.2 so the Sprint animation was already gone so I'm not sure if it would show first if it were there. But I like this, and it's really easy. Figured I'd share!

to add..whatever animation you download..rename it "bootanimation" (dont unzip the zip file) (unless directions for that certain animation says so)

and pretty much the following will work..

adb remount
adb push bootanimation.zip /system/media
adb reboot

(if having issues with mounting..go to recovery - mount - mount/system ..then redo steps)

btw..some directions are old and say to put bootanimation zip file in android\tools folder...just a reminder..use.. android\platform-tools\ folder instead.

hope that helps..along with thread post.

The sprint junk is in the boot image, you must unpack the boot image and delete the pics/images, then repack the boot image and flash to get rid of that.

Yea, I was thinking that might have been the case. I noticed the second time I rebooted that the LG logo was long (like it started doing when the sprint boot animation was removed), then the new boot animation replaced just the ANDROID one. So coupled with available ROMs this is an easy mod.

And thanks for tossing in the ADB commands. I haven't used ADB since I rooted my phone, so I never think of it. Between terminal emulator and Root Explorer, I haven't had the need. I just mount my SD, copy my files, and do what I need from the phone. Sometimes I just email the files if they're small enough.

There is also the app I use called Absolute System it has a boot animation dl/installer as well as a font pack selection installer that's loaded and a few other nifty things. I love it

This has got to be one of my faves.

Found it on XDA or some other forum - not mine.

Flaming pentagram - I think it was from satanic ubuntu or something.

Try it!

Just replace the one in /system/media with some root explorer program
or use one of the apps that swaps the boot animation files.

I just googled "satanic ubuntu" WoW! Pretty cool looking GUI, I thought about adding the "inhuman" but thought "my kids get on this computer" so good ol plain jane it is :)

Hmm... seems to stop the animation after it runs through once, then flashes between the last two images :(

Anyone have an idea on how to fix it?

Thanks for sharing. This is the easiest way yet that I've found to change the boot animation. Thanks again.

The one from the OP work in place of the standard Android boot animation but the flaming pentagram and the Lego boot animation from the Lego thread do not seem to work for me. Anyone get them to show?

ok... I'm seeing /system/media and /data/local.... I put mine (nexus) in /data/local and had it work... I know that 2.1 had the boot animation in /system/media...

dunno

i have an app that changes your boot animation and it is called boot animation changer. You can get it right off of the market

you can also make your own boot animations. for example, i wanted my boot animation to be my kid playing. I use a video converter to convert my video file to .png. I unzipped the file from DoesItMatter. I deleted all the .png files in the part0 folder. did not modify the desc.txt file. then I copied the now converted .png files that were my video into part0 folder. Finally, highlight both the part0 folder and desc.txt file and using winrar, select add to archive. Select zip as the archive format, and the compression method needs to be store. it will now create your bootanimation.zip file. Copy bootanimation.zip into the c:\android\tools folder (depending on what you name your android SDK folder) Now open command prompt, cd android\tools and press enter
adb push bootanimation.zip /system/media
if that does not work try
adb push bootanimation.zip /data/local
adb reboot.
you should now have your own personal custom boot animation.

I used super manager and pasted my boot animation into data/local, I get a not enough memory pop up. so i rebooted my optimus s and the animation only runs half way. How can i free up memory?
