Bootanimation help!

I've been working on this for about a day and I still cannot figure this out, so I have finally decided to give the forum a shot.

I've made a custom boot animation and I am am trying to get it to work. Currently, all I have managed to do is made the stock animation cease functioning. I've tried placing the bootanimation.zip in both the \data\local and \system\media folders using something called ES File Explorer. Unfortunately, I have been unsuccessful at getting them to run when I reboot the phone. I've searched all over the internet for solutions to this, but nothing I have tried is working (and i chalk that up to those other people using hardware different than mine, for instance, an evo, or incredible). I've also been trying to load other people's boot animations as well, but with no success either.

I would be appreciative of any help you guys can give me, especially if it is Thunderbolt specific.

I am basing this off of splash screens, and im not sure they're the same so bear with me -

when you make a splash screen, you end up with a zip file that contains the picture and a text file, which tells android os where the pic goes i assume.

then you rename the file and flash in hboot (so, for a tbolt, it's pg05img.zip).

think the same (or similar process) would be used for a boot anim, and that you wouldn't neccessarily go into the rom or what have you and switch out the file.

I would check out xda forums thunderbolt section, it's a way bigger forum there, and you can probably get the help you need.

when you place the zip in the proper folder, make sure you change the permissions to match the permissions of the previous boot animation.
(using a file explorer, long press the stock boot animation & press PERMISSIONS. copy the permissions allowed & apply those same permissions to your custom boot animation.
the permissions will be shown as something like
A B C
example: 1 1 0
example: 1 0 0
example: 1 0 0

1 being a check mark, 0 being no check-mark
this is purely written as an example--but showing you what you're looking for.
even if you place the zip in the right folder & reboot----it WON'T show the animation if the new boot animation isn't showing the right permissions.

make sure you rename the boot animation to something like "bootanimation.bak" so it is still there if you need it. if your new boot animation doesn't work, then you can change the name of the "bootanimation.bak" back to "bootanimation.zip"
