Borders Cruz book reader

My aunt bought a Cruz book reader from Borders and it runs Android. Now that Borders has gone out of business, she can no longer access her books using the Borders app that's installed on it.

I was going to install the BN Nook app on it but it doesn't have the market installed so I went to market.android.com and tried to install Nook. They have an account with google so we logged in with that. But the market tells me that there are no phones associated with this account.

How can I associate this device with the account so that I can DL and install apps via the market?

I can't find anything that tells me the Android version number but I do see a "Build Number"--it says CRUZ. Kernel is 2.26.29 and Firmware is 2.0.

TIA!

There is no way to get the android market on it or to get the market to recognize it. Its not a google certified device, so no market access

Thanks anyway. Since it's now useless, can you help me root it? If I DO root it, is there anyway to install the app then?
