Wanted to say hello as I am new here... I just bought a new G4 earlier today. I haven't owned an Android OS phone for at least 5 years, so any insight/tips during setup to help with battery life - as well as any other things I should know regarding the OS on the G4 - would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!!

To start with, look through this sticky, http://forums.androidcentral.com/lg-g4/544443-common-issues-solutions.html , to get an idea of potential issues and how to solve them; it can save you a lot of frustration.

The other thing I can say, given that you've been away from Android for 5 years, is to remember that you're not stuck with the software that comes installed on your phone -- you can install alternative apps, usually better options (my favourites are in parentheses, although there are lots of others out there) for your photo gallery (quickpic), photo editor (quickpic, snapseed), browser (boat, chrome), keyboard (swiftkey), launcher - the piece you use to look at your app list and start them (Nova), dialer, contact manager, file manager (ES File Explorer), brightness manager (Lux), etc.

And finally, if you're going to be using an External SD card, be aware that a) they're not 100% absolutely reliable, so make sure you're backing up your data, and b) many apps are not able to write to External SD, and some won't even give you an error -- some, like ES File Explorer and QuickPic know to prompt you for permission to write to the External SD (in the Common Issues sticky, you'll see the "Editing Photos Save Error" links).

I'm not writing any of that to put you off, they're just things that I wish someone had told me when I started with this phone -- I love my G4 (family first, G4 second, everything else somewhere after that...) and I'm sure it will become your newest best friend ;)

Not putting me off at all. That's great and much appreciated info-- thank you!!!!

One thing that made me make change from Apple was the restrictions Apple has with android you can pretty much download anything you want off the internet by going into your setting/General/security and checking the unknown sources beware you can get viruses from the internet so make sure you have a good virus protecting I have avast. If you are looking for free apps you can download this app store off the internet it's called aptoide you can download almost any app for free.

Question - I use exchange and I was wondering is it better to use the Outlook App or should I just use the native email system avail through the OS?

Battery life isn't great but at least the battery is removable. Keeping brightness around 30%, using battery saving location mode and disabling auto sync helps.

I suggest Nova Launcher for gestures and to customize home screen and app drawer. Another useful app is Key Plus which let's you change the volume up shortcut.

Use Nine - it has great exchange integration, you'll love the ui, and the widget is good.

I have both the iPhone 6+ along with the G4. I have been an Apple guy for a long time and love to play around with other phones. I was hoping that the G4 would actually replace the 6+ when I got it. The removable battery and the SUPER COOL leather backs had me hoping to move away from Apple.

I didn't happen. The G4 is beautiful and the battery is good (not Great) and I have to admit that took about 100 of the exact same picture with both phones and I have to say the iPhone pictures were better. I know that specs don't confirm that and that I had it on auto the entire time, but the pictures just looked better on the 6+

Swapping out batteries is great and the call quality is also very good. As far as feel in the hand, the 6+ is a little longer and wider but I have the Apple issued leather case on it and it is less slippery than the G4 and I feel like the chance of dropping it is less.

You can't go wrong with the phone, it is a beautiful device and the features are all Flagship quality, but for me it is still the 6+ as my daily driver and the G4 for playing around.

I second this. I just started using Nine a couple months ago. I was using Touchdown prior to that. I always thought Touchdown was good, but Nine has a better UI. I move around quickly and it works smoothly.

This is interesting for me as I just picked up a G4 from Swappa. It arrives on Monday. I have been using a 6 plus for the better part of 8 months and it is a great phone. I always keep an android phone as well. Right now it's a 2014 Moto X. I really enjoyed the G2, but never had a G3 so I am looking forward to checking out the G4.

I like a lot of things about the 6 Plus. It's a great phone. I did notice that when I had a Note 4, most of the pictures were better on the Note 4. Especially from the front facing camera. The rear facing were pretty similar, but the Note 4 just seemed a little sharper to me. It will be interesting to see how the G4 stacks up.

I just looked at Nine and I swear it seems the same as Outlook to me. The UI is very, very similar - tags, etc.

Funny because I have an iPhone 6 (my first iPhone) and I was looking at getting the 6+ but I went with the G4 instead. Apple's auto predict and correct has to be the worse of any mobile operating system out there. Its a total joke, and since I email a lot its been killing me. Not to mention the search feature is abysmal as well.

I like to comment on my personal experiences more than quoting specs and certain features. The iphone 6+ for me does everything that i need it to and does it simply and easily. Without question, any Flagship Android has many more bells and whistles and can be customized to your exact liking.

I for one want my phone to do the things that I do with a phone easily. I text (imessage mostly), make calls, watch videos, email, and snap pictures.... and those things the Iphone 6+ does simply and effectively.

Removable battery, SD card support are huge to me, but you can't have everything... So, only the Apple Haters will say the iphone sucks.. (even on Android Central).. To say either phone is better than the other is 1000% subjective... you need to find the phone that is better for YOU...

Very true. I like my iPhone 6 but the reality is I get over 100 emails in a day sometimes and the iPhone search feature and its auto predict and correct is simply poor - anyone that knows Apple products will tell you that when they designed the system it was to send and respond to simple emails... as such the native email in iOS is its weakest link.

Factory resets can, very much, be your friend. Backup! Backup! Backup! I've factory reset my phone twice now (my third Android device) and its worked better each time. Also, I just came from a Nexus device, regarding the Android ecosystem I think Google apps work best with Android. Gmail, Messenger, Google Keyboard. The like. And you're certainly in the right place. Keep following the G4 forums here at Android Central.
