So I purchased a Blackberry yesterday and signed up for a new 2-year plan from Sprint. I am a NEW customer. I wanted the EVO but they were out of stock and I needed to switch carriers soon, so I did it.

Now, can I buy the EVO (assuming I can find it) within the next 30 days from somewhere else and then return my BB to the Sprint store so that I can still get the upgrade price for the EVO?

my guess is you are OK to buy it at another CORPORATE Sprint store if indeed your original purchase was at a CORPORATE store.

if you bought at an "Authorized Dealer" you may be screwed.

go to Sprint.com to see who's who and what's what.

but you may be OK regardless since you should have 30 days to reboot.

good luck.

Yea I bought it at a Sprint Corporate store. I'm only a little worried that they will never get any EVOs in stock within the next 30 days.

i would go on Sprint.com and call and/or personally visit all Corporate Sprint stores within a 30 miles radius and see who can get you an EVO asap. the clock is ticking on your exchange. a little schmooze and/or grease goes a long way.

Wow, what a bad decision you made.

why is it a bad decision? I was on a 30-day with Verizon and did not like their service, so I needed to change by today. No EVOs in stock and had no access to any other sprint phone, i had to get on Sprint first.

Yea, telesales wouldn't do it. I got it on record that the local sprint store gets shipments around noon everyday, so I'm going to be calling them each day checking to see if they got an EVO

Well for one you waited until the 30th day...

If you would have left yourself more time, you might have been able to acquire an Evo.

well verizon was fine, but only the last week or so i was unable to receive calls from my wife and a few other people and with troubleshooting being done, they told me that the coverage was poor at my house, even though the map says it should be fine. i think it was a bs answer, but didn't help my confidence that they would be able to fix the problem.

In order to swap you must be within 30 days. If you find an evo at a place other than sprint corporate you will have to return the bb first in order to get new customer pricing

Yeah, that sounds iffy indeed. It sounds like you should be good, but I would maybe call and ask to be sure before your next 30 days are up ;D

it's available at amazon now (well you can at least order it). could i buy it from amazon at full price, return the blackberry, and then get a 'credit' for the new upgrade price?

You should have at least gotten a Hero. Or wait for the Epic.

well i couldn't wait like i explained. i'm trying to get my wife to switch to sprint soon and she's a blackberry user, so i figure i'd get the new one and she'd be able to see what the new blackberry is like

so is the best bet just to keep calling the sprint corporate stores in my area and hope they get an evo within 30 days so i can get one and exchange?

Like everyone says you got 30 days. But be prepared to shovel out that $35 swap/restock fee. I would keep calling corporate stores in the area. It will make it more difficult if you get one somewhere else. I don't know if sprint can keep a new account open if there isn't a phone tied to it(if you found an evo somewhere else). Which is why a corporate store swap is ideal.

So keep the BB until a store gets an Evo in, then open another line for your wife and get the Eve, then switch phones.

the store rep said i wouldn't have to pay restocking fee.

that would be ideal. Except my wife said she doesn't want to do that. Something about not supporting my phone buying habits. lol.
