My sis & I both own Photon phones. The screen on one has changed. Both started the same. Each showed solid app icons & the wallpapers were solid pictures. Now on one its seems pixelated. On mine the Facebook app icon is solid blue but hers looks like it was made from little boxes. The whole screen looks that way actually. I was wondering if this was a setting on the phone (maybe save battery) or is it a defect. Please help, thx

Yes check the brightness settings. Also there is a bug where the auto brightness will not dim automatically when going from bright to dark room. I just turn off the auto brightness. Hope they will fix that soon.

Checked it. It's not brightness. Both phones are on the same setting but look different. Thanks for responding with input.

Some pics. They dont do it justice on the forum because of size limits. It barely looks noticeable here but in your hand the difference is huge.

Right: My phone, Solid orange representing I87 on Maps. Left: the highway & the rest of the screen look boxy esp next to the word Major

All Apps Screen. Right: my phone solid color icons esp on Places, Rich Location & Phone Portal

Home Screen w/ My phone on the right: If you look at the Accounts icon you can notice on mine the solid red vs on hers which has this boxy effect. that efect is on the whole screen. Might see it easier by copying the photos and opening them in a viewer or if you have a photo zoom extension in your browser.

Again all help & responses appreciated

I'm glad you posted those here (just came from your post at the Motorola forums). I think your experience definitely argues for there being a software or electronic issue with SOME phones that makes them look MUCH worse than others. It actually explains why some people see this "screen door" effect so strongly while others don't see it at all--quite literally, some phones have it and others don't.

Unfortunately I can't offer much in terms of a solution, however, I will say that I get a similar effect to the phone on the left when there is something moving on the screen: swiping up, down, left or right, opening the launcher etc. Let me know if you are able to find anything that fixes it. I'm hoping something comes through OTA in the next week or so to clean it up a bit.

Nice pics, could not be anymore clearer. You might want to take it to the store and see about a replacement.

@wynand32 When I went searching through both forums & seeing "screen door" & pentile screen and their description I was getting more confused. After reading those posts I didnt know what the normal screen was supposed to look like anymore, lol.

My guess is Im gonna have to replace it again. (Her 1st one had reboot issues). Glad mine has worked perfectly since day one.

I say return it to Sprint. Check the phone out before you leave. You will have some bad phones in ever bunch.

Still wish the Photon was sporting a better screen. qHD all the way!

Good luck with it! Hope they fix it for you!

I might be misreading you, but the Photon does have a qHD display.

There is something obviously wrong with the display of the phone on the left. But you can also see a slight checkerboard effect in the phone on the right, that's how mine looks. I don't really notice anymore unless I'm moving/scrolling, which makes it pop more. To see this effect drop a Sticky note widget on one of your screens. Start to swipe to the next screen but stop immediately while leaving you finger on the screen. See how the Sticky note widget is banded?

Despite these visual oddities, I'm still pretty happy with the phone. Now, if they can just fix the silent call issue....

EDIT: The Sticky note nonsense I posted above was fixed by enabling High quality drawing for GO Launcher. Also, that issue doesn't occur using the default launcher....

Definitely return it to Sprint. Go to a corporate store if you can, and compare it to whatever Photon they have on display. That's just simply terrible and beyond the pale.

Could it be different manufacturers of the screen causing this? Mine looks like the one on the right
