Quick question for everyone, I just bought a s8 yesterday and I installed the latest system software, I updated all the existing apps and while downloading apps on to my Samsung I noticed that Google's 2 apps "carrier services" and "android system webview" we're not Installed or enabled. I haven't been on android for about a year but I always thought those apps we're essential to the android software ? Are they not needed anymore? Thank you in advance for your reply

Mine has the "Carrier Services" but does not have the "Android System Webview" enabled and it will not allow me to enable it.
Never noticed that before but it has not affected any normal operation of my device.

Mav.

My android system webview is also disabled with no way of enabling. This is my first samsung so I am no expert, but I suspect there is a Samsung app that takes the place of webview on galaxy devices.

After Nougat the System Webview is included in the Chrome app. If you want to use the old app you need to disable Chrome or do a trick in the Developer Options (glitchy and not worthy in my opinion).

Thanks for that helpful explanation. It's in my app list as disabled but even going to play store page and tapping "enable" nothing happens. As everything seems to work fine, I'll assume it's not necessary.

Yeah, not necessary at all. You can update and use the old app after disabling Chrome, download a different Chrome version or switch to a different Webview provider using the Developer Options, but not necessary at all. :)

The Carrier updates are in my experience what the Networks want adding to their branded phones such as Calling Over Wifi enabling etc.
Thanks for the reply, I understand that but how does the carrier send it? As a software update of carrier updates? Apple on the iPhone the carrier would send it themselves

Yes Apple send there's as they don't allow any involvement by the Networks.

With Android the Networks first sign off on firmware for their branded phones before allowing Samsung to send out any type updates.

Networks do not send out firmwares / carrier updates at all.

My understanding is the process for Branded Handsets is....

Samsung send to Network > Network Tests it and adds any Carrier Updates > Signs it Off and sends it back to Samsung > Samsung push it out.
