Ok so, I have a LG Optimus V, that I rooted using super one click, in fact, i followed all of the instructions here : On the Optimus V rom forum

Then after a few hours using the aospCM7 2.3.4 6/01 ROM, I needed to restart my device, and bam... stuck at LG screen....

So, thankfully I had a backup made, rebooted into recovery and flashed back to my original factory ROM, (however the recovery loader clockworkmod was still there and in use), everything seemed fine, and I started to simply use my original stock ROM to do everything since I assumed it would be more stable, unfortunately, after a full day and a half of use, this ROM did the same thing, and hung at the LG loading screen.

So now, I'm at my wits end, after this last hang, it will not go into recovery mode 90% of the time, but sometimes I get lucky and it will actually load up. During the first load up, I attempted to wipe all data "factory reset" in clockworkmod, cleared Cache, Devirk Cache, recovered my original ROM, formatted SD card, and restarted device. Same thing, any idea where to go from here? Is my phone a brick?

So where I'm at atm :

Every normal boot freezes at LG logo :

Trying to start recovery 90% blank screen :

Is there anything I can once I'm in recovery that I haven't tried already?

Is there anything I can from the SD card if I insert it into my PC?

HELP PLEASE! :'(

You didnt get a full permanent root.
Im just browsing quickly I would check the other threads that are like this whyzor It think it was posted a nice guide.

Thanks for the responses guys, I have looked around Eollie, but before I had no idea what I was looking for haha, but I'll search around for errors not getting full root permissions, but I feel this may also be hard, since I can't actually get to the OV through the pc through USB. Not sure, but I'll continue to search.

i am at my wits end, i have searched far and wide, and nothing seems to be able to help someone who cannot get into recovery or the normal boot >.<

 Update

I can now see the device with adb in windows, cannot access the files on SD card through usb however.

When attempting any command such as "adb shell" I receive the error message "error: device offline" same result in fastbootroot.

I believe the reason for this is the USB Debugging mode is turned off? not sure if that would even matter since the operating system itself may be erased, who knows.

If anyone knows a way to get past this current point it would be appreciated. :p

Update - Ok well apparently my phone wasn't quite as bricked as I believed.

After letting it charge over night, I was able to get back into recovery mode - so I assume I simply didn't have enough charge before to get into this mode haha

from there I reformated my SD card, since it still would not mount, then transferred 2 images to SD, reflashed ROM and now I'm back into the phone miraculously.

So now that I'm into the phone again - How to I do this the correct way?

I want to root this phone fully, the correct way - where is a guide for that? No super one click if possible, all manual preffered if that is a safer method.

Should I be using ClockworkMod to flash my ROM after I have the device properly rooted?
If not - then what?

I want to use : ath3nos ROM to flash, but I'm open to suggestion - just looking for something stable, overclockable, good battey life, prefer CM7 (latest and greatest right)

Anyone able to link me a guide on how to do this proper like? without the use of superoneclick or clockworkmod? I know alot of users such as Eollie have said that these ways are the least stable - so I'm looking for the most stable alternatives.

Thanks everyone

i have no idea why the sticky was removed. but your supposed to use superoneclick to "shell root" which roots the phone without modifying any files inside it.

then your MANUALLY push the CORRECT files to the phone while its "shell rooted" over usb.

then you reboot it and the phone restarts with the correct root files already in place and you got a permanant root.

the "automatic" root of super one click breaks the Optimus V, but the shell root button is soo useful becuase it lets you go through ADB and push the needed files into the V.

ok, so its correct to use super one click to use the shell root option; but don't use Clockworkmod to do my flashing? even if i have the proper images on the SD card? using install from SD method?

and if thats not a safe method, is there any reason I have Clockworkmod on my phone? could it be the culprit of my problems and should I remove it?

is ROMtools a safe method, since it uses adb to handle everything?

To answer the bolded, yes there is a reason. In Rom Manager there is a option to fix permissions. You can rename your backs to reflect what they are (ie:which rom dev it is version that kind of thing I name mine like IHO 7.1.3 and so on.)

And unless your tried to flash a rom with rom manager then no its not what broke your phone. What broke your phone was not having permanent root.

As stated right now the best way to root your phone is with the gingerbreak method.
If your phone is new it probably has the exploit patched used to get root with super one click. That also could be the culprit of problems. When we had dreamscape virus google patched the exploit used to gain root. I dont remember what teh updated version of Froyo was but I would bet it was added to the new software.

You should only use the Shell Root(Temp root that goes away at next reboot) button on the SuperOneClick found in ROMTools. With your phone in this Temp Root RomTools will allow you to change your recovery to Xionia_cwma_12518.4.(this recovery is best for Froyo- 2.2.1and 2 ROM's). If you already have ClockWorkMod recovery v3.2.0.1(not v3.2.0),then it works best with the Gingerbread CM7 ROM's. I had an incident like yours using ClockWorkModrecovery to flash a Froyo based ROM(backup saved me). ROMTools will also allow you to Flash a Froyo based ROM straight to your Phone. The reason why you can't flash a CM7 ROM straight to your phone With ROMTools is because in order for the ROM to be complete you also have to flash the gapps as well(can only do this in recovery unless the gapps are include in the ROM zip). The same thing with ROM Manager( You can flash Froyo, but you can't flash Gingerbread) If you used the ROOT button then your going to have to change permissions with option #4 in ROMTools once you get Temp Root. Then use a file manager like Super Manager that will allow you to change individual file permissions permanently. Make sure su located in /system/bin reads rwsr-sr-x ...if su is located in /system/xbin it should read.... rwxr-xr-x...Once that is straight then go to the market and install super user app. Then download Busybox installer and try to install it in the same place that su is(sometimes it says there is not enough room so install in alternate file location) Then download Root Checker to make sure you have Root and Busybox installed properly. Reboot and check again. Before you try any other method to root you need to check and see if su is in the system, and check to see if Busybox is installed. If the answer is no to both then proceed to root.If no to su but yes to Busybox, uninstall. If yes to su then follow Instructions above^^,or use ROMTools to establish Temp Root. Run #4 and try to uninstall su.. Then proceed to Root. I hope this can be of some help. Thanks to Eollie for the answer to why you can't flash a ROM from ROM Manager in this post

So, reflashed, re-rooted properly, reinstalled clockwork, installed busybox, checked permissions with root checker and all looks fine. Yet the phone will still not boot every time, and will not go into recovery.

Is this phone just bad? This behavior isn't normal with rooting and flashing is it?

Sounds like it. It should boot regularly every time, and only into recovery if you boot by holding vol-down, home, and power button until LG logo. If that's not the case, then you should completely restore the phone and send it in to LG/VM for replacement (if it's still under warranty).
