Hello all, first time poster here.
I've only just recently started reading these forums and other Android-related resources after I got my HTC Evo 4G this past Wednesday. The Sprint store called me saying that they received a shipment and that it was first come first serve. I had about an hour and a half left at work. I quickly rushed out to get it and two hours after the initial phone call I was able to snag the very last unit!
Well anyways, after playing with it for a day and a half (including the camera), this morning I discovered that my Barcode scanner app wasn't working. It would start then hang and have an error saying it wasn't functioning properly and I had the option to force quit. I also heard this clicking sound coming from the phone. I googled my problem and found out the clicking noise was the camera constantly moving back and forth, presumably in an attempt to get it focused and working.
I tried googling about camera issues and found that it may be app related so I downloaded and installed App Task Killer, ran it, and voila! The camera, camcorder, and barcode scanner app were working normally. I scanned a couple QSR's online to get some other cool apps and then just went on with my day.
A couple hours later I wanted to take a picture of something and found that the camera again was not working. I tried ATK, but this time it would not fix the problem. I took the phone to a Sprint store and they spent an hour trying to fix it at their center, which included a physical camera replacement (swapped it with the store manager's camera temporarily) and a hard factory reset (lost all apps and contacts). The camera still would not work.
Fortunately, a lot of my contacts are stored online and can be sync'd and better yet the manager said they're expecting a shipment next week and I'll be able to swap for a new unit (as expected per their policy).
I'm very happy with the phone and Android (my previous phone was the Palm Pre) and besides this little mishap I'm glad I made the switch to Android.
Just thought I'd share the experience with everybody since through my google searches for the issue, I could not find very many answers. This tells me that the issue is not widespread and is probably isolated (but why me
).
Thanks for reading.
