Buggy, laggy, screwy phone app

I've noticed lately that the phone/dialer app is pretty screwy. Sometimes there is a significant delay between hitting the dial button and the call actually going through - often up to 30 or 60 seconds. Other times it will appear not to go through at all, so I will try again and suddenly I have two or three instances of a call trying to go through at the same time. Then there are times when nothing happens at all and I just have to reboot my phone altogether.

Also, sometimes just answering a call becomes a problem, with the unlock/answer bar not responding to my swipe.

I've gone through and uninstalled a ton of apps to help with memory. I've done battery pulls to refresh. I've updated whatever software I can. The problem still pops up intermittently...usually when it's most inconvenient for me.

Anyone know what might be causing this? Is this happening to anyone else?

I have this issue pretty often. What I do that seems to help it is to let the dialer app run in the background all the time. What ROM are you using?

If your running a custom ROM, boot into CWM every once in a while and wipe cache/dalvik cache. You will be surprised how this speeds up a laggy custom ROM'ed phone.

I have this same issue as well... no custom ROM here... stock 2.3.7. Would love to hear if/how anyone else has resolved it...

Meant to add that I've done the same things as the OP and the issue is still there and like was posted, always seems to happen at the most inconvenient time.

I've been so annoyed I thought about going the CM 7 or 9 route, but with the (supposedly) impending stock ICS update I've held off because I don't want to go through the hassle of wiping my phone to root it.

I'm glad it's not just me that's frustrated by this... I haven't been able to really find any info in web searches...

Dunno if this would help, but I abandoned the stock dialer/addressbook right off the bat when I found Go Contacts/Dialer. Though I went looking for it because I wanted a contacts/addressbook app that I would let me store my contacts on the phone, not in Google.

I'm not unlocked or rooted or flashed or anything. I've only got the OS as sent via OTA last summer (2.3.7 GWK74).

Use the Speed Booster app/widget.. I run that when I notice my phone app slowing down, and it works wonders. Either that, or the Go Task Manager.. Just close all running apps with that and it will help too.

Mine has been horrible lately as well. No idea what triggered it but it it's just like you mentioned. Slow to dial. Phone with random resets while on a call. it's nearly driven me mad and I'm ready to toss the phone in the garage (not sure you can call it a phone add this most basic function doesn't even work)

Wondering if Google voice is the issue?
