Does anyone know this Build number: ECLAIR.UXJH4 ? I have looked eveywhere and can't find any reference to it anywhere. I was emailing back and forth with Samsung trying to figure out why my Software updates function (under About phone) is missing and they asked for my Build number etc.... I gave it to them and they have not answered back after giving them that number. I'm slightly worried now as I bought this from ebay and the guy said he just unlocked it (i'm with Rogers in Canada) and he emailed me saying it's not rooted. Here is what samsung said:

The Captivate originally launched with software version JF6, the maintenance release will update the software on the device to JH7. Please take note that the this is a Maintenance Release only and not an Operating System update. The JH7 maintenance release update will be pushed out via FOTA over the next few weeks. The update will be released in batches so that the network will not be over-loaded.

You can manually check for an update by choosing the following:

Menu > Settings > Software Update > Check for Update

i wouldn't be able to at this point. I have been using it for a while now. Any ideas on what I should do at this point? Should I try to root? If I root will it need to be unlocked again (I use the phone in Canada on Rogers)? Thanks

I don't think root will change anything. Take a look over at xda forums for something called odin. Make sure you get the correct version. Do some research though- people report that after one click root they're not able to use the ota update. Though this probably already applies to you.

Do you have kies? There are reports too that connecting Samsung Kies allowed you to update the firmware when the ota won't allow it. I wonder whether it would bring you to jh6 first then jh7?

All speculation- do some searching / research before you commit and proceed. If you decide to flash a new rom (for which root will be needed), my advice would be to first of all make a backup rom of the current state of the phone using (rom manager [which includes clockworkmod]). You can do similar with titanium backup for your apps.

One other thing to think about - if the phone works for you, do you really need to modify it?

Hope this helps-

AoN
