Which do you all say is the better one to buy? The Tmobile version or the unlocked one?

The unlocked one will most likely work with wifi calling as Tmobile usually always works with wifi calling on Galaxy devices.

Some say they won't get updates as quickly as carrier ones.

Unlocked non carrier as always since I hate carrier versions with passion of how they cripple up the firmware and have no business modifying and removing features. They should just worry on improving network instead of bothering to add/remove OEM features etc. Whenever I have an option to buy non carrier version I always go for it. And good on Samsung stepping it up lately, updates on unlocked non carrier models are now improved and in line with at least carrier models. Also, they are releasing unlocked models at launch in US which is also great sign.

Without hesitation pre ordered the unlocked Note 8 to use on T-Mobile.

Agree 100% on unlocked only way I go now, also allows me cheaper monthly service.
I was with sprint years and hated when my phone would suddenly start down loading there crap I didn't want

Well it allows a lower monthly payment on the T-Mobile bill but if you finance through someone else (like Samsung) it still is the same amount of money. You're just paying that $30 or whatever to Samsung versus it being on your T-Mobile bill. You aren't saving any money :P.

I ordered the tmobile one from samsung.com just now. Figured better not take the chance with wifi calling and I want HD voice.

Honestly, I have an S8+ through TMobile and they only have two apps of theirs preloaded onto the phone (TMobile and TMobile TV). So, honestly, I'd do the same thing and get the TMobile branded phone over unlocked (isn't it cheaper too?)

Oh, and in terms of updates, I've gotten an update once a month so far.

Yeah non carrier unlocked phones definitely not saving money, on the contrary buying carrier devices you always get deals most cases and end up paying less for the device. Service cost is same with unlocked or carrier device.

For me it's not the cost, it's just my preference to use the cleanest possible version of a particular phone. Granted recently things are way better on carrier devices than they were few years back but I just can't and prefer non carrier phones if it's available for a particular model.

I bought the unlocked v20. Somehow when I put my SIMcard in it and downloaded Tmobile visual voicemail, it downloaded the other bloatware features.
