Buying a used Samsung Note 5 for Verizon. What should I look for and stay away from?

Hi all, looking for some advise on purchasing a used Samsung Note 5.

This is the part # that I have seen SM-N920VZKEVZW. Wondering why they say it is unlocked but still has the verizon software on it.

Anyway to tell if this has the issue with the S pen getting stuck inside?

I bought my Note 5 used and it's Verizon also. I met the seller at a Verizon store where they thoroughly checked out the phones. I haven't had any problems with it.

Swappa and Craigslist are both ways to get a used phone. I would trust a phone purchased through Swappa over Craigslist or eBay.

I looked at Note 5s on swappa. My only worry was buying a phone that has been used for 6 months or more. I'm an extremely heavy user and with it being non removable battery I know that a six month old battery might minimize my Note 5 experience sooner than I'd like. I suggest looking and asking for a phone 3 months or less. Take your chances

Amazon Warehouse shows some "Used - Like New" VZW Note 5's in stock that are fulfilled by Amazon. Might be an option that has some good support and return benefits - if needed.

Thanks for the tip. Did not even know that existed. Looking to fill the gap between now and the Note 6 coming out. Figured buying a good phone used would not cost me much in the long run after trade in later on.

The prices have dropped quite a bit in the last month. You can get a 64gb for under $500 now and a 32gb for around $400. I would say those are some pretty low prices for a phone like the Note 5. Buy from someone with good feedback. I would say at least 3-4 sales with all good feedback. I've bought and sold a lot on swappa.com and never had an issue as long as I watch who I buy from. Good luck.

So those prices you mention are considered Good? Seemed a bit high, but seems like there are not a lot for sale. If I look on Ebay and confirm the iemi number is clean, along with their protection services, should that be sufficient? Why is SWAPPA considered a better source for phones over ebay?

The Note 5 was a $700-$800 brand new only 6 months ago. If you go to the store today to buy it you will still pay that or close to it in most places. So I would say $400- $500 for a lightly used phone is a good deal. A lot of people that sell on swappa.com buy and sell a lot of phones so they are well taken care of and look brand new. I'm using a 64gb Note 5 right now that I paid $520 for on swappa.com last month. It came in the original box with everything like new plus 3 nice cases and a car mount. It's in perfect shape and has not given me any issues at all.

EBay doesn't do any checks on the phones that get listed so you are taking a gamble but again if you buy from someone with good feedback then you should be OK. I would look for sellers with a higher feedback rating though. I like to see a history of 50 or so just to be safe.

Again, this is all just my opinion and after about 5 years of buying and selling these things have served me well. I hope you find what you are looking for. The Note 5 is a great phone especially with Marshmallow. 🖒

I Picked one up on Ebay for around $440. I have been using it for a couple of days. So far all is great. Also just updated to MM. All is good.

Yes, thanks. That was definitely a requirement. Don't know how you can survive with a 32Gb version.w/o expansion..Leaps and boundsf better than the Droid Turbo I was using.

I just bought a 64gb black verizon one off Ebay, Killer deal $430 included 10 different cases 4 packs of a variety of glass screen savers, 2 wireless chargers and a battery extender case. Couldn't be happier and to top it off the phone is flawless not one scratch on it. The guy does reviews and just picked up a new S7. I feel incredibly lucky
