buying a x need advicd

Hi im buying my father an x via online reseller...
is there a way to tell id the equipment is really brand new or used?
Esn number or something?

I would think you can get the ESN and verify it with Verizon. Honestly since you are buying new, buy only from an authorized partner you can trust.

I wouldn't buy from anyone except Verizon. That's the only way you can count on customer support and exchanges/replacements if needed. But that's just me. Truth is, in 20 + years, I've only needed to replace 2 phones. A lot of folks go through 2 to 5 devices per phone model, but I think that's more of a user problem.
