Buying apps

Hello all i have a rather odd question. i have never bought an app before (all frre thus far) but when you purchase an app how does the money change hands?

Right now the Android Market uses Google Checkout so you will have to sign up and add a payment method. Supposedly Paypal will be coming into the mix but for now Google Checkout is the only option. I have been using Google Checkout for quite some time and have never had any problems.
