AC Question

I'm new to Android myself. I just switched from a iPhone 6 to a LG V10 and then realized I didn't need the newest greatest thing anymore so returned it and bought a used G3. I'm liking it. My son is almost 12 and uses a iPhone 5C. He's expressed interest in a bigger screen phone and is flexible on the OS. Since I sold my iPhone 6, I was thinking of getting him a used LG G2 for Christmas. The 6 would have been too much to give him for a Christmas gift anyway.

This G2 a 2013 phone like his iPhone 5C, so I'm curious how they compare in performance. I don't want to get him something that is a step back. I'm also a little confused as to whether or not it has a removable battery and microSD card slot (and how big a capacity that slot can hold) because I'm getting conflicting info on those things. Some are saying no removable battery or SD card.

The G2 doesn't have a microSD slot. The battery is also not removable, but if you're determined and brave enough there is a way to pry off the back cover and get into the battery.

I don't own a G2, but I know the general consensus from people who own them is that it performs great and holds up really well with the newer phones. I think it would be a good choice.

Yes the G2 doesn't have removable battery or added sd memory. The G3 will have both. The G2 has 32 gb of memory, which I haven't had any issues with. I know someone with the 5S and when we have loaded a video to compare the G2 is way faster.

Before you get rid of his iPhone, make sure he signs out of iMessage (or iChat or whatever that messaging app is), otherwise he'll have problems receiving texts if you keep his phone number the same. The same would apply to you as well.

The G2 is still a great phone (my wife is reluctant to replace hers), and has a lot of good features. Although it does NOT have a microSD card nor removable battery, they aren't really needed with 32gb storage and 3,000 mAh battery. It's not as fast as current flagships, but isn't really short on any performance measures.

Aren't you going to consider other newer budget phones? Budget phones nowadays doesnt lag like they used to back then.

I didn't experience any lag on my G2 with current (nor older) apps. The only obvious disadvantage with it that I see is that it won't receive any future Android updates (irrelevant if you're into using custom ROMs).
