Buying unlocked from AT&T

I just had 2 questions

- If I buy a phone from AT&T unlocked (No Commitment), is that the same thing as the international version? Or is it still an AT&T phone but just unlocked?
- If I buy a phone unlocked (No Commitment) from AT&T, and updates are being pushed out from Samsung, would I still have to wait for the AT&T update? Or can I get the "International/Unlocked" version of the update with no problems?

If you buy it outright, it is the same as any other locked version on AT&T. If you buy it outright though, after so many days (not sure of number) you can request an unlock code from AT&T.
