Calendar notifications

If there is a birthday, shouldn't the calendar notify you? I've gone through my contacts online, entered birthday, or events, and then made sure the birthday thing was added to the online calendar. All events are synced to my phone, but it has yet, in the past 6 months, to notify me of an event. Friend had a birthday yesterday, listed in calendar, settings are all set that i should at least get a notification in the status bar.... nothing. Aside from manually entering in everything on my phone, am i missing a step? Thanks for any input.

What calendar are you using online? I am using Gmail. What I did is add a subscription of my contacts birthdays to my calendar then add reminders. There may be an easier way, but it worked for me.

I use Gmail, and did the subscription. So from there, i just need to go to each on one the phone and add a reminder?

Well, you definitely won't get notifications without reminders.

in the main calendar settings, i set the notifications. thought that was all that was necessary. Thanks for the help.
