calendar widget issue

My upcoming events aren't showing in the calendar widget. Is there a setting I need to turn on?

my calendar widget has been acting up as well. It will look like it's just loading. I've had to remove and put it back, but it keeps doing this, so something is wrong

I'm talking about the notifications that are supposed to be under the date on the main page. Thought I could use that instead of the calendar widget. Not sure if I was clear. Check picture.

The notifications come under the date and weather...or so I thought.

the event shows up half an hour before regardless of the set reminder.
