I haven't received my spectrums in the mail yet, but will tomorrow. I've been doing a bit of research on the phone though and this seems to be an issue with some spectrums and not others. I'd return it again. I know how bad quality control is in the hardware industry these days as having built many PC's I've got dead ram and gpu's among other bits of hardware on several occasions.
When I first bought my droid charge, (which is what I use now) I had to return it for a new one because even in sleep mode it would drain my battery in 8 hours. Never had an issue with the new one though and it's 9 months later. I would keep taking the phone back until they gave me a working one.
I was watching some videos on the LG spectrum last night on youtube and in a head2head with the rezound the reviewer praised the call quality and audio of the spectrum saying it's the best he's heard. So it must be individual device related, and not something which effects every device.
I would also consider the idea that it could just be a bad connection. And I don't mean bad connection in the sense that it's choppy or cuts out a lot; I mean that you can get a connection sometimes that just doesn't seem to go through well. I've had it before and usually hanging up and trying the call again will resolve it. Also I would consider it maybe being something interfering with your connection. Just some thoughts, hope you get it the issue figured out though.
