I currently use Verizon and signed up for a FI account also. I want to try Fi out for awhile without porting my Verizon number over yet. Is there a way to set my calls and texts to forward to my FI number? I don't want to go thru the hassle of telling everyone to use a new number, just to have to tell them to go back to the old one in a few weeks

I know most phones let you do call forwarding, but I'm not sure how that would work if your phone only has one SIM. It would have to detect the incoming call first and then direct it to the new number

Verizon has a call forwarding feature you can setup on their website however its based on what plan you have currently if it's available. I just switched from Verizon a few days ago. You can also contact Fi's customer service to change your Fi number to your Verizon number after activation if you decide to keep it after your test period. here's some of the info for call forwarding:

Set up Call Forwarding again from your mobile phone by calling *72 and the forwarding phone number including the area code (e.g., *72-555-555-5555). You can also edit the number you're forwarding calls to online from the Call Forwarding page in My Verizon.

I'm in the same boat with a Verizon contract that is up in January and my 6p scheduled to arrive today for Fi. I thought I'd give a couple of apps a try, one being "FREEforward" which uses data but allows me to reply to texts received on my other phone as that phone #. The other is "SMS Call Forward / Divert" which looks complex but I'm not sure. They both get decent reviews and I'm sure there are other apps out there, but at least this will let me carry one phone and keep the other in my backpack all day at work.

I already sold my S5, so when using Fithe Verizon sim is just sitting in my desk drawer. Does the sim need to be in a phone for the forwarding to work? I'm sure that for most text forwarding the sim would have to be active in a phone of some kind.

Setup forwarding on the Verizon site for calls and it works. So I just had to text the few ppl I text with to tell them to use the new number for awhile. We will see how this goes. Gonna try this for a few weeks.

I can confirm that FREEforward works pretty well. The only drawback is that you don't see your outbound messages on the phone you use all the time if you are replying to texts that came in on your "leave it at home" phone as the "leave it at home" phone number (please pardon the terms... they are the best I could come up with that wouldn't be too confusing). Once you send your message as the other phone, that's the last you see of it unless you look in messenger on the "leave it at home" phone. After trying it out for a day, I think I'd be pretty comfortable leaving my old Verizon phone at home, plugged in all the time now. The only drawback so far is that MMS doesn't forward. I may opt to create a Tasker setup to forward MMS to gmail.

I only have 1 phone though so that might not work well...

2 days into project Fi and it has been iffy... Service is good in town but as soon as I leave (I drive all over for work) my immediate area signal is weak at best. I do like the visual voicemail that kicked in with the Tmobile though. I've used about 260 mb in 2 days just with web browsing and social media.

While it may not work for you, Mattsican, I've found a better solution, at least for me, and it might benefit others that stumble on this thread. I've installed Mighty Text on my Verizon phone and downloaded the tablet version of Mighty Text onto my rooted tablet and then pulled the apk out of the root /data/app directory to send to my Nexus6p (It seems you can't just use the phone version of Mighty Text on another phone to receive the messages, I could be wrong.). It installed perfect and despite being a little tight it's VERY useable and gets picture messages forwarded as well. Plus I can send texts and MMS as if they are coming from my Verizon phone.
