Call volume control won't go away

It seems that when I use any app that uses the phone, after I am done, the call volume appears to be in control and all my audio comes out the phone speaker and not the bottom speaker. Only way I seem to be able to fix it is to do a restart or power off reset.
Am I missing something that I need to do to release the call volume control?
